Replaced home button now grey vertical line and distorted screen

Hello all you finest folks out there.

My home button was acting up almost since new and I was putting up the replacement untill just recently it virtually stopped working. So I ordered a home button from online store somewhere in china and after studying breaking down (no pun intended) procedure I ..well...broke it down. I took it all apart and replaced a home button then carefully put it back together in reversal. I didn't forget anything because I double checked and made sure that ribbon cables aren't pinched or kinked in any way. I firmly seated all connectors and put it all together. Turned the phone on and to my huge disappointment I found a half-inch wide grey vertical line across the screen and everything is distorted. When I boot the phone I can see some shades of green (where the battery symbol should be while on charge) and when I slide finger on the home screen the phone unlocks. One can see the blurry colors - a distant reminder of icons but it feels that the image was just smashed together in to the half inch thick line. Please not that everything worked before taking it apart . Ironically the home button works as it should...and is unusually easy to push :->

Anyways now to my main question...does it sounds like a screen issue or as a logic board ? Because I wouldn't mind shelling out 50-80 for a new screen but I definitely not going to pay 200+ to replace the board.

Any suggestions?

Thank you for your time

From how you describe it it's a damaged display assembly due to a pinched cable. You will need to replace the display again.

You can find the display here. The guide can be found here: iPhone 4 Display Assembly Replacement

Hi.

The replacement of the screen did the trick however my proximity sensor stopped working due to lighter glass. I blacked out the area of the sensor with permanent marker and everything works as it should. Also I have purchased replacement screen on eBay for $27 instead of this site for $120. They looked the same and worked the same as well.

Thank you for your help.
