It won't shut down!

This is a weird one, when I tell it to shut down, it restarts. Anyone know why?!?

Apple menu...shut down...it restarts...it's supposed to shut down not restart. The only way I can get it to turn off is if I hold down the power button. Is this just the way the laptop works? If so I feel stupid...

What happens when you hold it down? Keep it held down for a while. You may have to do a power manger reset.

Like I said, if I hold down the power button it works, it shuts down. It doesn't however shut down when I tell it to from the apple menu. All updates are current.

Try resetting the smc.

The only thing I haven't tried out of all these suggestions is re-loading OS software, but nothing has worked so far. Another thing I noticed when I plugged in it's charger, it turns on...

See if it happens in Safe Mode:

To start up into Safe Mode (to Safe Boot), do this:

Be sure the computer is shut down.

Press the power button.

Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.

Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).

How exactly do you tell it to shut down? To make sure it shuts down hold the power button until it turns on. It should not turn back on.

Try clicking on apple, software update.....the problem may be due to software, and hopefully not hardware.
