Can I replace dead superdrive with a SSD hardrive?

I have a Model A1224 / Mid 2007 / 2 GHz Core 2 Duo processor / 4 Gigs Ram ver 10.6.8

Can I replace my dead optical superdrive with an SSD drive?

What kind of enclosure do I need and can I use the

existing cables in my iMAC to achieve this?

Here is the guide to replace the optical drive with a hdd or ssd.

Installing iMac Intel 20" EMC 2133 and 2210 Dual Hard Drive

Your iMac will need a ATAPI enclosure like this one:

If you take that info and look for the equivalent on iFixit this is what you will find:

I do appreciate the time you took to answer my question.

But your link says it's for a mac Mini not a Mid 2007 / 2 GHz Core 2 Duo processor desktop. I'm still stuck with no answer.

I just edited my answer and added links to the proper enclosure. I did a quick search on your iMac and found that the one in the guide will not work as its SATA and not ATAPI.
