Phone will not Charge after Battery Replacement

I have a Iphone 3GS and lately the phone will shut off after a few texts and so I ordered a battery for replacement from Ifixit. After work last night I followed the steps outlined here and had no problems with the new battery install. However once I put the phone on the charger it appeared it was not charging. Even after being plugged in all night. When I take it off the wall charger it just goes off. When I plug it in after boot-up it is requesting activation.

This morning I took the phone apart again and re tried the the battery install process with the same results. Considering that my problem may be my new battery I re-installed the original battery and when this battery was plugged into the wall it began charging and did NOT need activation. Once unplugged the phone stayed active and ready for use.

The question-Is the new battery I received from Ifixit defective?

Thanks

There are a number of different factors to keep in mind with the 3G and 3Gs batteries. First, you generally want to make sure the APN # on the battery itself matches. I've done them without matching numbers and they generally work fine. But for some reason ive seen some in the past be picky about this.

Also, what is the model number on the phone? If you install a 3Gs battery in a 3G, it will turn on, but will not charge and will actually discharge quicker than its supposed to.

And also, i'm sure you did, but make sure the flex cable from the charging dock is reconnected to the motherboard. I've seen those sometimes want to pop loose when reinstalling the LCD and digitizer assembly. So if you pop that up with a suction cup and its unhooked. that could be your problem.
