Replaced the optical drive - doesn't work :(

Hey everyone!

Eventhough this was the first time I replaced something in my MacBook I have to say that the instructions of ifixit.com guided me easily through this..

So far so good.

Now I replaced my broken matshita dvd drive with an HL GSA-S10N

But nothing has changed!

It pulls in the discs but nothing is ever mounted.

I tried several CDs and DVDs.

So I assume there is a software problem.

I tried to figure it out by checking probably every mac forum I found but I guess my english isn't good enough to understand whatever they were talking about.

Could please anybody tell me how to get it to work?

I want to install a new OS on a new, bigger HD, But I need a working DVD Drive first, This is so slowing me down!!

Help!

Update

By the way I still use OS X 10.4.11

It doesn't show up in disk utility.

There is just my HD

But if I open the 'Ueber diesen Mac' menu (About this mac?)

it is listed as hardware in use.

IT might be listed in the disk utility if it would read a CD or DVD..

but that is not the case.

Ok.

I had everything varified and it told me that something was repaired.

But it still doesn't read anything..

Thanks anyway..

any other suggestions?

I also tried the dell- firmware updater for this drive in windows via parallels, because I thought a newer firmware-version would do but the updating failed.

It seems like a software issue, try opening disk utility, and verifying all drives in the system. Also see if the disk shows up in disk utility. You can find disk utility in the utilities folder.

The HL GSA-S10N was for the MacBook Pro and your MacBook Core Duo just can't use it properly. I'd get the correct replacement drive with ROMs the MacBook can read. Contact the parts department here for information on the drives that will work for you: http://www.ifixit.com/Info/contact

Here's some discussion on it: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa...
