Keyboard not working (just in its middle part)

Hey guys,

Cleaning my MacBook's keyboard suddenly it stopped working anymore. Firstly the whole keyboard, then it's been recovering some buttons and now is just the middle part of the whole keyboard. I'm using an external keyboard and mouse to keep using my Mac.

If that sounded weird, next is even more weird: everytime I do flight on a plane, the next 2-3 hours I'm using the laptop after landing the whole keyboard works perfectly! Then it starts again to don't work in its middle part. Pretty weird, but this is what happens after flying (I do travel very often).

I've been in my nearest Apple Store for a check and they said I should replace the whole upper case, but they in no way could explain why the keyboard works perfectly after a flight.

Guessing maybe the plane pressure can help to re-connect something inside? Is anyone out there who has been experiencing similiar troubles?

I'd say that's quite strange! I can't see how the pressure would make a difference, there's nothing sealed or semi-sealed that could hold pressure or a vacuum that I could see in the keyboard design.

With than said, is it possible something spilled or used that is coating things creating the sealed condition around the membrane and contact layers? Then I could see how the pressure difference could explain this.

Sorry to say, its likely cheaper replacing the entire upper case/keyboard assy. as the genus recommended than having someone pull the keyboard apart to clean up the spill as there could be damage from what ever spilled that could still cause problems and then still needing to replace the assy anyways.

If you feel you have the skills you could try cleaning things. But, this time you need to disassemble the keyboard and don't use anything that leaves anything. Good Luck!
