gail orlen, it seems that your lens is stuck. Your camera will shut off when it senses that. Check on here for a few ideas on how to fix it. I have had some success by using a vacuum cleaner to assist with extracting the lens. If none of that works, you probably need to replace the lens. Hope this helps, good luck.

Remove the card from the camera, turn the camera on. You should get message that the card is not in the camera. Put the card back in the camera & restart/ turn the camera on the lens may now open, it did for me.
