use flux or not?

I'm reflowing my PS3 with the YLOD kit. Several videos on the net of how to reflow the PS3 suggest you use liquid flux on the chips before before reflowing the solder. Should I use the flux before heating the motherboard at all, or after heating the entire thing on low and before laying it flat and focusing the gun on the chips. Thanks.

In general I apply flux as soon as I begin to apply heat, unless using a preheater in which case I wait a few minutes while it warms up.

Options

Always use flux before heating or warming up! This way the liquid flux is abosrbed when the reflow has begun.
