Ipod Nano 4th generation, inherit from a friend.
Won't play tunes through the earphones, will play tuneson the base.
Have tried different ears. Where do I start looking

the headphone jack is damamged.
im not farmiliar with the interior of that gen ipod but the older models usually have soldered headphone jacks.
i would start by going to youtube and watching an ipod 4th gen headphone jack repair video (or search for audio jack, teardown, anything that will show you the process) you can determine yourself if its somthing you can do or if it requires a skilled hand.
then i would go to ebay or amazon and find the part needed.
