Is my battery dead no recognition
Battery i not charging x inside icon profiler says no battery is it dead or something worse.. When I push battery test button one led flickers

Your battery is dead--the question is why. Do you have access to another machine to see if it will take a charge there? Does the computer function properly with the power adapter? If not can you find another to try so we can eliminate the adapter as a cause? If the adapter and battery are good you probably have a bad Magsafe in board. Here is the URL to replace that if needed. This looks like the fix I need. I will seek some friends to help out the price is right, but the process seems daunting. The instructions are superb!

charging circuit. The MacBook works from power adapter but doesn't charge battery. New battery will run machine fine, but is also no recognized as being installed. Should we still be looking at the mag safe board or elsewhere. Thanks

Try resetting your SMC first. If no difference I would replace the mag safe board. Ralph.

Ralph you are wonderful but really I don't know what an SMC is nor how to reset it. Apple Genius said it this might run me $250-350. This scares me I used to have money now every penny is being watched. I have an engineer friend who is worth his weight in gold who has offered to help me, but he has no Mac experience. Your help is really appreciated. It's like open source stuff!
