iPod Play pause button does not work

The only function that does not operate is the play / pause button. All the other functionality of the touch pad is operational. The work around was to remove the head phones and the system pauses automatically. To restart, up arrow to the start of the playlist then hit the select button in the middle. Scroll back to the track you want to hear, and again push the select button.

Using my ipod is still workable, it's just a pain.

Gary B, it is possible that the button makes not longer contact with the microswitch on the logic board. You could try a new click wheel and check the switch. When you take your iPod apart, look for a round black piece of material that is glued on the the top of the switch, it does help the button to make contact with the switch.
