Problem with home button & earbud jack

I bought a used Ipod on ebay. Once I received it and played with it, i noticed the battery didn't hold very much charge. So I went back to ebay and searched for replacement batteries. Found one and ordered it. Once it came in the mail, I hopped on to youtube, found a video, and starting tearing it apart. I broke the screen in half, and got down to the part where you had to sodder off the old battery and sodder on the new, and decided this was way past my abilities. Put it back together. And of course the screen no longer worked. Bought a new screen on ebay.

Got it, and now the home button doesn't work, and when i plug ear buds or my aux cord into it, some of the sound goes thru but most of it still plays out of the speaker....

Can anybody tell me how to fix this? As it is right now, if i want to exit an application, I have to shut off the ipod and turn it back on so i can get back to the home screen since the home button doesnt work.

And tonight, my wifi worked just fine til about an hour ago, now here i sit on my laptop on my wifi, and my ipod won't connect. I'm currently restoring it to try that.

Anyways, any help would be appreciated

You will need to solder a new headphone jack on the board and check that the glass is pushed down good try to scoot the glass towards the top of the ipod and press down on down to make sure it is seated down and making contact. Some of the new screens come without a home button flex cable installed so you should verify that first. Sometimes just adjusting the torque on the headphone jack screws will fix the sound issue as well.
