Dita, the first thing I would suggest is that you clean the camera. disassemble it and clean all the parts with 90% or better isopropyl alcohol. This will decrease the chance of failure caused by corrosion. the lens itself is very tricky and intricate. Yes, you can disassemble it and clean it, but the problem could be that the zoom motor is short circuited. You should clean the lens separate from the camera. Make sure that it is not binding on the case etc. The other issues that will come up when trying to repair the lenses, are the availability of parts. They are extremely difficult to obtain. I personally would opt for a new lens. The only other thing I have tried, and had some success with, was to use a vacuum cleaner (I use a shopvac model:) Try to assist the lens by attaching the vacuum hose to the lens while turning the camera on.
