keyboard and battery help

my keyboard left shift is typing symbols rather than the traditional english (or whatever) it is supposed to.. i have a macbook pro.. it has just started doing this.. so for example.. if i wanted to type the word dragons with a capital d and an exclamation point.. here is what i get..

Îragons⁄⁄ any suggestions??

also.. i am getting an X on my battery and it is showing that i have no battery available.. ideas??

Sounds like it suffered a spillage. Any possibility?

If it was dropped or had something dropped on it the battery could be damaged or knocked loose... that would also likely explain the keyboard problem. If remapping the keyboard doesn't work, you'll have to open it to replace the keyboard/top case anyway so check out the battery.

Be sure to purchase the proper tools to open the machine... every job is easier when you use the proper tools.
