battery replacement, step 5 I have lost. Can I buy this piece?

I just replaced a battery in the iphone 3gs.

Step 5 in your how to guide ( for battery replacement)says to remove a little silver piece. Almost shaped like a staple. I've lost this piece. Is it possible to buy this piece alone? I'm guessing its a major important piece. The phone will not come on at all now. When I plugged in the phone to see if it would take charge. I heard the beep but the screen is black.

Any help would be great! Thank you. Your replacement battery guide was excellant and I'm excited to know how well my skills paid off had I not lost this piece.

tannerlee11, I just looked at the guide but can not se a part that looks like what you describe. A any chance you could post an image on here?

If this was the pressure contact that goes over the camera, this is a non-essential part. The camera seems to always snap in solidly to its holder, so any additional support is unnecessary. If this is the part, it is not causing the problems you mention, unless it is loose and caught somewhere important inside the iPhone.

I was able to restore with itunes and almost as good as new. I can't power off and my volume buttons aren't working.

Volume and Power buttons have a common connector. If Flex Connector #5 is not connected properly to logic board then Power, Volume, Mute/Vibrate buttons and Headphone Jack will not be connected, so will not function.

is there a way to fix this? Also the new battery seems to be getting very warm and its back the apple screen now? I'm starting to think the battery replacement was not a success after all.

Battery replacement step five on this guide could only be the bale latch for the #3 connector popped off. You probably have that problem and the lcd is not properly seated in. I looked in the guide and that is where the guide is at step 5. The connector can be removed and resoldered ona new but unless you have experience at this work and the right flux and desolder alloy good solder gun solder wick very small diameter solder good magnification you would be better off getting a tech to help you with it.
