I had a similar situation with my Dell Insprion. When I replaced the M2 NVME drive, it reported overheating, but the location for this M2 drive was too tight for adding an aluminum heatsink. So I just attached the silicon thermal pad only, the temp down. I also applied the same method to the M2 drive mounted on my MacBook Air 2017. Good luck.
