taking apart iPod 1st Gen (desolder)

Hi, Does anyone know how to take apart the cover type of thing over the hold switch/jack/firewire connector on this old style iPod? Once done any ideas how to replace the firewire connector? Please see step 14 on link [guide|370|page=5] to see what I am referring to. Thanks, Nick.
