Start the laptop and get into the BIOS menu area (press F2 after laptop starts and before Windows boots) and using the keyboard to navigate - arrow keys etc, check in the ''POST Behaviour'' section that the option ''Touchpad-PS/2'' is selected.
 
If it is hereis, then here’s a link to the [https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_laptop/esuprt_latitude_laptop/latitude-e6410_service%20manual_en-us.pdf|service manual] for the laptop. Find the section that describes how to replace the Palmrest to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove the Palmrest so that you can check the touchpad cable connection. The touchpad is part of the palmrest.
