Just to clear one thing up, the calculator can '''not''' run just off of the cable. It is expected behavior that when you remove the battery and just plug the cable in that the light turns green. :)

I Looked into the flashing red light and I think means you have an improper power source. My best guess is your power brick is faulty. Can you try a different power brick or connecting the calculator to your computer and see if it will properly charge?

You might be able to get more information about this by running a self-test.

Press [mode]

Press [alpha]

Press [S]

Press [enter] three times

Press [3]

If you need help with this there is a video about it [|here]. This will tell you if the calculator is charging but it might also tell you if something is wrong with the connection.
