See how much you can get for the iMac by checking sales listings, and then do the math.  Yes, if it's being used for viewing Netflix etc. you will want to get rid of that yellow tinge.  Generally speaking, they are worth repairing (and last a long, long time).  I'm in the middle of repairing my 27", somewhat newer...but it's a tank.  The newer slim ones are harder to repair.

Keep in mind that (if needed) you can even boot and run the iMac on an external USB or Firewire drive, which is terrific for experimentation.
