Mr Blubird, since you are suspecting water damage (sounds about right;-) I would recommend that you disassemble the 3DS [http://www.ifixit.com/Device/Nintendo_3DS#guideList|using these guides.] Clean everything with 90% or better isopropyl alcohol. use a small soft brush and carefully clean all connectors and cable ends. Rinse everything of with alcohol and let it dry. After that, '''replace the battery''' reassemble and re-evaluate for further, if any, damage. Hope this helps, good luck.
