HP Pavilion 700: transfer data from dead HP hard drive?

My HP has died, mother board I think. I want to recover data from the hard drive (HD) on the old PC and transfer my data to a new PC. With my old PC dead, how can I move the information from the old PC to the new PC? Is there a way to use the pwr supply and the HD alone from the old unit and cable up to the new unit? Or even to a memory media stick?

HP Pavilion dv9000: What is the cause of multiple hard drive failures?

The HP Pavilion dv9000 is not the oldest computer out there. About 4 months ago, the stock hard drive (about 2 years old) began making scratching noises and such, so I went out and bought an external to back it up, as well as a new Western Digital WD Scorpio Black 500 GB 7200 RPM (the "desktop-performance" laptop hard drives).

So I tried backing it up with the external, but the old drive died mid back up, and it was completely dead.

I installed the new hard drive, and hooked it up with Windows 7, but even 2 weeks in, I started having start up problems. Windows would fail to start up occasionally, and I had to do start-up repair a few times. 2 months in, Windows failed again, I started start-up repair, and it didn't work. I went into the hard drive self-check, it passed the quick test, but received an "error #10009: replace hard disk" from the comprehensive check.

I know that means I need to replace it again, but I'm wondering if anyone knows what could cause this. Did I just get unlucky with 2 bad hard drives, or is there something else that could cause this?

Microsoft Surface Book 2 15": Constant Attaching/Detaching of Keyboard and tried obvious solutions

Recently I have come upon an issue where the keyboard keeps attaching and detaching intermittently.

I am no stranger to this issue over my 2 years of using this computer. Usually I have to just clean the connectors and it works again. If that doesn’t solve the problem right there, a hard reset (power + volume up held for 30 seconds) usually resolves this. Also I can tell it’s the connectors because moving the laptop around or adjusting the screen pivot usually triggers the issue reliably before I clean it.

However this time I am stumped. I have cleaned the connectors (both the keyboard and computer side) thoroughly with rubbing alcohol. The screen can attach fine no problem and everything is working. Moving the monitor around, shaking the laptop, gentle taps, don’t trigger any upset to the connection. However the computer is now attaching and detaching constantly regardless of the conditions (moving or not moving).

The timing of this can be as fast as 10 seconds apart and as slow as 5 minutes apart between attaching/detaching interruptions. When it is ‘detached’ on many occasions the keyboard and mouse still work. Other times it actually interrupts their functionality.

Things I tried:

hard reset multiple times

cleaning thoroughly the connectors

making sure windows is updated

making sure drivers are updated

Only thing I haven’t done yet is a full hard reset. Looking to get my files/programs in order to do a full wipe and hope for the best.

The computer was working perfectly until after one quick site visit where I reattached the keyboard and used it as a bulky tablet. Right after I put it back into it’s original laptop form, the issue popped up. I keep thinking it’s physical but I am not sure what the cause could be. My highest suspicion revolves around the cable that runs along the hinge of the keyboard, connecting it to the pins (only a suspicion, I am not sure as tilting the monitor doesn’t cause any detaching issues directly). But I am at a loss as to how to check or deal with that.

Sorry for the long description but if there are any thoughts I can try I would love to hear them. I am out of warranty so dealing with Microsoft is a no go.

Thank you!

I removed them to clean after I spilled a little juice on it, but as I was putting it in the pins that would lock them into the clip broke.
HP Laptop: HP Power Button not working

Hello everyone,

I have an HP laptop (Model: 15-ac108nx) where as the titles says: the power button is not working.

What happened here was I had it running and had to forcefully shut it down. I tried using the power button to shut it down but I wasn't getting any response from the laptop. Hence, I removed the AC adapter to shut it down (which may have been a bad idea I guess).

When I booted it up once again it is not powering on anything. I did not hear the fan running, there were no lights going on and so on.

The laptop's battery is removal however I don't use it since the battery isn't working anymore so I only use the AC adapter to power up my laptop. There is a light indicator beside the AC port that actually lights up and that is the only light that is on my laptop.

The only troubleshooting method I did was the power reset method.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Lenovo S21e-20: Keyboard doesn't respond after pressing Caps Lock.

Keyboard works normally until pressing the Caps Lock button. Hitting Caps Lock will make the keyboard unresponsive, you won't be able to type anything after. Can't even open up on-screen keyboard to turn off Caps Lock since it (on-screen keyboard) will hang on startup. Right now, it looks like restarting is the only way to bring back the keyboard.

Really confused what the problem is. And my Google searches aren't pulling up this specific problem.

I should add that ONE key does respond after pressing the Caps Lock key: the Fn or Function key types the number one (1.) Aside from that, nothing else works.

And it looks like opening the on-screen keyboard and turning on Caps Lock on it works normally. No keyboard hangups. No issues with turning on/off Caps Lock.

Problem is when Caps Lock key is actually turned ON using the keyboard. That's when everything stops responding. Even the on-screen keyboard stops responding though it's working beforehand.

Update (08/19/2020)

It looks like there are other people who run into the same problem. For the newcomers (welcome to the club) and for the sake of visibility, here are possible solutions compiled from other messages in this thread:

A. Disable the Caps Lock key using a reputable keyboard software found online.

B. Disconnect all keyboard connections (and maybe all other connections as well) and put it back together.

C. Replace the laptop keyboard.

As I am inexperienced in opening up laptops, I went with option A. But I would suggest option B if you know how to. Another user has experienced the same problem and reconnecting all the, well, connections is what solved it for him.

Good luck!
