Western Digital My Book: My Book won't power up

My MyBook 3T Drive, less than 1 yr old, only used for Time Machine backups, refuses to power up now. Have no idea why; I haven't even backedup that many times so it's got plenty of space.

I've tried different outlets, also subbed in the power cable from my older MyBook Studio, all to no avail! This is especially maddening since I have many externals, one from 2006 even, that I no longer use but still powers up! makes me think newer is less reliable - !! This really blows!

so if I tear it down, what am I looking for?

is there a way to access it w/o a power source?

fyi, it's barely 1 yr old - bought it in Aug 2016

Western Digital Elements HD: WD External Hard drive isn't accesible

Help would be greatly appreciated! I have a 1tb Western Digital Elements External Hard Drive that is <1 year old, and up until two days ago, was working fine.

There was no physical damage it received. I had the drive plugged into my laptop, I attempted to open a folder on it after some time had passed: it froze, then closed out. I unplugged the drive and re-inserted it: my computer recognizes that something was plugged in, but I cannot access the files on the drive.

There is no clicking noise. It lights up fine, and I can hear the disk spinning smoothly. It shows up under Device Manager under its proper name, but not in Disk Management. When I open disk management, I get a message that says “you must initialize a disk before logical disk manager can access it”. It does not work when plugged into different computers, nor when switching the cables.

I am a computer novice, but my sleuthing leads me to believe that the issue is with the SATA connections. Though this seems to be an easy fix, Western Digital unfortunately has the sata connections integrated into the rest of the board. A video had suggested buying another identical hard drive and replacing the controller board with the old one, but others have said that is a bad idea. Please help me.

Seagate Backup Plus Hub: External Hard drive not showing up?

So I recently dropped my external hard drive on accident. I know I know… theres my first problem right.

Well I thought there might still be a chance that it works. So I plugged it in to my computer and the light on it came on as well as the sound that the computer makes when I normally plug it in.

The issue is though that it doesn’t show up on my computer anywhere. The weird thing is that I can still eject it like I normally would with the eject button… Is there anything I can do to fix it or to get my files? I have them backed up for the most part, there are only a few that I don’t have.

Also I’ve looked up other questions like this and a lot of them say there is some mysterious ticking noise coming from the harddrive but mine doesn’t have any noises coming from it.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Western Digital My Book: Why isn't my WD My Book external hard drive being recognized?

Unlike some other people with this problem, my hard drive isn't showing up on my PC (Windows 7) or my husband's Macbook Air, and although it has a flashing blue light when plugged in, it isn't making that spinning sound, which has me worried it might be a gonner. It's about 10 years old and has ALL my kids' photos stored on it. I just went to back up my PC and it isn't working. Feeling worried. I tried several of the solutions that involve checking for bad drivers and trying to see about renaming it or moving it to another place, but I just don't see it in there, so I don't know what to do. I can try to order another power cable, but if the light is flashing blue, is it even possible that's the problem?

Thanks for any help you can give!!!
