Why won't the LED turn off?
The LED on the drill won't shut off unless I completely remove the battery pack.

I bought this drill for the convenience of it not being corded. But when I am trying to drill holes through two inch pieces of wood, it dies half way through. Does this drill really lack that much power?

I have 2 Black & Decker 20 volt "Matrix" batteries.
During another household project, I used the battery as a power supply for something else. Low draw, was not getting hot. Discharged down to 17 volts. Now when I plug it in, charger just shows "bad battery".
Another just shows "bad battery" on the charger when I plug it in. It's practically new but I have no insight on that one.
Anyone familiar with how these opperate that might have a fix at least for the first one? My suspision is that somehow the battery knows it was used for something it should not have been. If that's the case...can it be reset?
Same problem with older 18 volt "Firestorm" battery. This could be age...but every battery (3) shows bad?

I have no experience with Black and Decker batteries, but have had DeWalt batteries do that. I would take the bad battery and place a penny in each of the power terminals. See pics. Take the good battery and make SURE to connect (+) to (+) and (-) to (-). Connect only for several seconds. Place bad battery on the charger immediately. I have revived several batteries in this manner. Please use caution when using this procedure. As a precaution make sure to do this outside in case of fire.

Turn the dial just above the bit to the highest setting. (The dial with the numbers on it). You should be able to get 250 lbs of torque on this model.

I finally got it out but now the chuck is stuck

The chuck has been tightened that is why you can't get the bit out. Here's what to do
Grab a pair of plyers and gently try to loosen the chuck instead of your hand and this should release the chuck back to normal

Drill is 5 years old, had moderate use. Drill 5 to 10 holes in wood or drive 5 to 10 longer screws and the drill stops working, battery strength lights flash. Leave it alone for 3 to 5 minutes and it works again normally. Do the same amount of work and it repeats. If you only drill 1 or 2 holes or drive 1 or 2 screws the drill does not misbehave. A tool only replacement is $100 CDN and an upgrade to 1/2” is only $30 more with charger and bag. The repair solution needs to be inexpensive parts wise and not epic to perform. I’m willing to try a fairly simple repair/servicing. Any suggestions??

Stopping then starting after a “rest” is a signature symptom of a thermal problem. Likely, the speed control circuit connected to the trigger.
However, with the battery lights flashing, that might indicate there is too much current being drawn by the tool and the battery has been shut down to protect it. The tool might have shorted windings. Economically, that may be a show stopper for a fix.

copeland9 the chargers are available on ebay.com Batteries for this unit are no longer available but you can try and find replacements based on the manufacturers number on those (let us know what number it is if you need help with that) or you can build one similar to this one Repairing Black and Decker - TS221 Ranger CD2000 Battery

I have a 4.2 volt drill and the battery life is really annoying so can i replace battery with a 5 volt soldered input to directly power the drill, or could i use 12 volt to directly power the drill. Which one is more safe? Id like to challenge myself with this project. Are there any limitations. I just want it to work. i.e. : my device does not exist on ifixit site so ill attach an image.

To use 5vdc all you need to do is connect the battery and drill away. All battery device will usually handle as much as 3 VDC more than they are rated. As far as 12 vdc you will need to drop the voltage and the easiest way to do the is hard wire a cigarette lighter to cell phone adaptor inline between the battery and your device. I personally have modified the connections on many of my 18 VDC and some 14 VDC devices to connect to a 24 VDC pack I .ade and so far so good.
Oops! I'd like to change my mind.
