iPod Touch Gen 2 Front Panel Assembly

$69.95

Product code: IF140-003-1

Product Overview

Milk spills, the cat gets stepped on, the front panel on your iPod Touch shatters. Accidents happen.

When I first bought my iPod Touch, I became enslaved to the world of apps. I downloaded every free app on the planet…but it wasn't enough. They were all the same. I decided I would create my own apps. Unfortunately, I had about the same amount of technical skill as my dog, who's still working out how to use the doggie door I installed 7 months ago. Nevertheless, I was determined to create my own apps.

That was three years ago.

About a week ago, I finished my first app: iFrisbee. I called my buddies and told them to meet me at the baseball field to start a pickup game of Ultimate iFrisbee. On the throw-off, I sent the iFrisbee hurtling over the opposing team's heads. It landed on the infield with an impressive explosion of glass shards, metal bits, and digitizer pieces.

Our game had to be cut short that day. Fortunately, iFixit sells iPod Touch Gen 2 Front Panel Assemblies, which includes the touchscreen glass, integrated digitizer, metal frame, and home button. It worked perfectly and we rescheduled the game for the following week.

I love making apps.

Note: This part is only compatible with model A1288 iPod Touches. If your iPod Touch is model A1318 you should purchase an iPod Touch Gen 3 Front Panel Assembly.

My Problem

Replaced a cracked ipod front panel.

My Fix

The repair went great, but the smaller plastic tool's tip snapped off. The larger tool worked well, but the plastic looked worn afterwards.

My Advice

Use the larger tool and follow the ifixit video. It was perfect. I paused it on the screenshot where the tabs that had to be released with the tool were.

My Problem

It felt down and the glass broke

My Fix

One of the plastic opening tools broke while opening the iPod. But with the other one everything went well.

My Advice

Don't be afraid of breaking the old glass while removing it, it could really help.

My Problem
