iPhone 4 Transparent Rear Panel (GSM/AT&T)

$29.95

Product code: IF182-021-1

Product Overview

For installation, you'll need either a Phillips #00 or Pentalobe P2 screwdriver. If you're not sure which screws your phone has, both screwdrivers are included in our popular Liberation Kit.

This part only fits the iPhone 4 (GSM/AT&T). We have the equivalent product available for the iPhone 4S here.

Apple designs amazing products—inside and out. The internals of the iPhone are absolutely gorgeous, but Apple keeps them covered up! Now you can have the coolest iPhone on the block! The glass panel looks absolutely gorgeous, and we can't wait to see them on iPhones everywhere.

As it turns out, the best method of opening the iPhone 4 is not to bypass the pentalobe screws and smash the rear panel. Au contraire - you are a pioneer on the Oregon Trail of DIY. A simple rear panel transplant might be the cure for a cracked case, but would ignore the more serious malady that has hindered the case of every iPhone to date: opacity.

It's often said on the trail: "No Guts, No Glory." What's keeping you from glory? Mere opacity? Let the transparent rear panel unleash the glory within, while still keeping its guts safe from the incorrigible oxen, sinister buffalo, and rushing rivers that lie ahead on the trail before you.

This replacement rear panel is complete with all the necessary parts including camera lens, flash diffuser and bezel.

You may also want to consider getting a nifty screen protector, so that your iPhone can play nice with your keys.

NOTE: If you have received your panel already and have an issue with blurry pictures or it looks like your lens is scratched, make sure you have removed the very thin protective film that is on the outside. It can be removed with your fingernail. Do not use something metal to take it off. If there is still some residue on the lens, a micro fiber cloth should take it right off.

My Problem

After surviving almost 2 years with only minor damage, I stupidly dropped my iPhone onto a marble floor while on holiday, and shattered the back panel. Luckily, the rest of the phone was fine, so I thought it simplest to replace the panel. As the transparent panel was cheaper and provided a great talking point, the decision was easy.

My Fix

Fitting the back panel is dead easy. Just two screws, a little bit of force to slide the old panel off and new one on, and you're done.

The first panel sent to me by iFixit had a gluing problem which meant the left-hand (camera) side of the rear panel was raised up slightly and felt a little loose. I dropped them an email and a replacement was shipped same day. The replacement is perfect.

My Advice

If your rear panel isn't flush on both sides, make sure you speak to iFixit and get it sorted sooner rather than later. Their customer service is excellent.

My Problem

A friend of mine gave a hard time to her iphone , the first time she dropped the phone in a puddle , shattering the rear panel . But the phone was still working .. the second time.. well the second time .. she lost her phone for 5 days , until her flatmates found it in the gutter of the street , basically she took a taxi home and it was raining pretty hard this day so she rushed into her place .. the phone fell out of her bag , and waited there .. in the water and rain , peacefully .

When she got her phone handed over .. it would still turn on !!

But little by little the phone was acting crazy .... Battery dropping dead low , recovery mode etc etc etc..

I was curious to see what was happening inside . So i ordered a couple of items from iFixit

My Fix

Opening the phone ... turns out water got in .. and aside from the rust , the battery was leaking . So not looking so good inside at all .

I had a replacement battery but if the mainboard was damaged too , it would be completely useless , so i disassembled the phone completely , to the core , to be sure that there would be a chance to save it ( and also for the fun of doing it )

Rusty screws were a bit tricky but overall it went well .

In the end the motherboard / display / sound speakers/ camera miraculously survived .. i've just cleaned the connections and made sure everything was in place .

Putting stuff back together wasn't that hard but took some time ..

Then came the moment of truth ... turning the phone back on .

And it worked !!!!! \o/

New battery , charging properly , everything plugged back nicely !!

My Advice

Use a soft surface to put the phone onto .

Use sticky tape to glue the small screws while you're doing something else , because they are small .. they move easily , any bump , any dropped screw driver make them jump like crazy and they can fall .. and if so you'll spend 45 min looking for them on the carpet of your living room ( true story )

But most of all , take your time and don't give up .

My Problem

back glass was cracked

iphone lock and home buttons were both broken, not working

My Fix

the repair went good, I fixed everything and it all works perfectly.

My Advice

1. make sure you have the right tools, I used one screw driver for this whole project. it was not the correct size to fit down in some of the hard to reach areas of the phone and it made things MUCH harder.

2. the home button and lock buttons were VERY difficult fixes. if you are a normal, average user. do not attempt to fix this yourself. even with the kids it can be very intimidating for someone who doesn't have experience building and taking apart electronics. if you are up for the challenge though. GO FOR IT! what is there to lose? your Iphone? YES!

My Problem

iPhone 4 battery started expanding because of charging circuitry due to jailbreaking (at least according to the folks at the Apple Store).

Back panel was popping off, and pushing the home button resulted in color changes on the display.

My Fix

Great, super easy - took less than 10 minutes.

My Advice

Between iFixit and the Apple Store, you can get great troubleshooting advice, and the iFixit parts list is really cost-effective...

My Problem

My iPhone 4, bought on 2010, stopped responding to home button clicks. The rear panel was just "a bonus".

My Fix

Everything was ok. The guide from iFixit is perfect.

My Advice

The Home Tech Toolkit has a Phillips #00 and a Philips #000 on it. None of them fits perfectly on the iPhone. But they do fit on the MacBook Pro. It is just weird. Luckily I have another screwdriver that did the job. None of the screws were harmed on the process.

Important: Print the screw template.

My Problem

just loved the look of the case cover

My Fix

easy

My Advice

buy one its cool

My Problem

I wanted a clear rear panel.

My Fix

Easy, easy, easy!

My Advice

Change rear panel in as dust-free an environment as you can so you don't get any behind the glass.

My Problem

Because it looks cooler.

My Fix

Very simple. Took just a minute.

My Advice

Don't hesitate for this buy. The only tricky thing is if you have a white Iphone, the look will be kind of constracting, when holding it sidewise. How ever though, it's nothing really noticiable.

My Problem

The camera lens was scratch beyond repair, which forced me to replace the back panel

My Fix

Removing the old panel went easy. Installing the new panel took a little bit of force to slide it in place, but once it was in, it just screwed in like the old one. very simple.

My Advice

Being able to see the guts of my phone, just brings a whole new element of excitement to owning the iPhone. The only thing that bugs me is all the dust you can see build up inside, o well, I'll just have to open it up and clean it every now and then.

My Problem

Cat pushed it off the coffee table it landed funny and the back glass cracked.

My Fix

I fix iProducts for my friends all the time but this repair is easer then easy, two screws out slide the cracked back off, slide new one on two screws in, all done. In fact is so easy I did it twice, In all the excitement of having translucent back on iPhone I did not clean all the dast particles from my phone innards so i took it a part cleaned the dast and finger smudges from the inner glass surface and re assembled it again.

My Advice

Every one I showed it to want see through back now. Even if your phone back pannel is not broken, its so cool (factor x 10) I recommend replacing it.
