iPhone 4 Transparent Rear Panel (GSM/AT&T)

$29.95

Product code: IF182-021-1

Product Overview

For installation, you'll need either a Phillips #00 or Pentalobe P2 screwdriver. If you're not sure which screws your phone has, both screwdrivers are included in our popular Liberation Kit.

This part only fits the iPhone 4 (GSM/AT&T). We have the equivalent product available for the iPhone 4S here.

Apple designs amazing products—inside and out. The internals of the iPhone are absolutely gorgeous, but Apple keeps them covered up! Now you can have the coolest iPhone on the block! The glass panel looks absolutely gorgeous, and we can't wait to see them on iPhones everywhere.

As it turns out, the best method of opening the iPhone 4 is not to bypass the pentalobe screws and smash the rear panel. Au contraire - you are a pioneer on the Oregon Trail of DIY. A simple rear panel transplant might be the cure for a cracked case, but would ignore the more serious malady that has hindered the case of every iPhone to date: opacity.

It's often said on the trail: "No Guts, No Glory." What's keeping you from glory? Mere opacity? Let the transparent rear panel unleash the glory within, while still keeping its guts safe from the incorrigible oxen, sinister buffalo, and rushing rivers that lie ahead on the trail before you.

This replacement rear panel is complete with all the necessary parts including camera lens, flash diffuser and bezel.

You may also want to consider getting a nifty screen protector, so that your iPhone can play nice with your keys.

NOTE: If you have received your panel already and have an issue with blurry pictures or it looks like your lens is scratched, make sure you have removed the very thin protective film that is on the outside. It can be removed with your fingernail. Do not use something metal to take it off. If there is still some residue on the lens, a micro fiber cloth should take it right off.

My Problem

The back camera on the iPhone was scratched. Replaced with transparent rear panel. dropped it once and it shattered! It's clearly not as sturdy as the original iPhone rear panel, which I dropped without shattering it numerous times.

My Fix

Quick Fix. But, I now need to fix it again. I'm going to order the original from iFixit.

My Advice

buy the non-transparent rear panel

My Problem

The rear panel was crushed. I was afraid that water/humidity could enter the phone and destroy it. I like the iPhone and hope it will work for a few more years. PS, I still have the first iPhone1 and it still works.(Backup phone). So I decided to fix it and found ifixit on the web.

My Fix

The panel arrived in my mailbox after a very few days. I was lucky and did not have to pay any additional customs or VAT to the Norwegian gov as well. First I went through the installation process on your website and after that the new panel was replaced in only 5 minutes. Picture shows before and after. That saved my a lot of money. Apple in Norway charges about $ 200 for the ex

My Advice

My advice is that this fix is easier than I thought. I´ve read that you should never open an iPhone because it will be damaged either by static or wrong use of tools and never work again. I can strongly recommend to do this and I will not hestitate to do it again, hopefully not with my own phone...

My Problem

Coz the original DIED....Nothing fun happened that caused it to die, no dropping in toilets, no leaving it on car roof then driving away, no slipping out of pocket when on rollercoaster. It just died.(perhaps overuse?!)

My Fix

Simple enough - nothing too troublesome or fiddly.

My Advice

My recommendation is NOT to have knee reconstruction then be pumped full of pain killers before attempting the iphone tear down. Parts are small enough without having to contend with a numbed body, blurry vision and a general feeling of happy goodwill to the entirety of humanity........

My Problem

My iphone felt on the rear panel and it broke

My Fix

The repair went smoothly. No particular issue. Done in less than 3 min

My Advice

I choose the transparent rear panel. During the repair, I discover a patch antenna on the broken rear panel. This missing antenna can affect the overall performance for the RF. I notice some performance loss with the wifi 2.7 GHz, minor one. Please tell the rear panel can decrease a little bit the performance.

My Problem

I dropped my iPhone and the top left corner completely shattered. I didn't want to pay $50 for a new black rear panel so I chose the transparent rear panel.

My Fix

It was a very easy repair. It took about 3 minutes. It looks amazing on my iPhone!

My Advice

I would recommend that you spend a few extra dollars to buy the regular iFixit pentalobe screwdriver rather than the one in the iPhone 4/4S Liberation kit because it will fit better if you have pentalobe screws on your iPhone.

My Problem

I broke the rear panel of my iPhone 4 early this year. At first, I replaced it with a low cost aluminium panel purchased on Amazon. The result was aesthetically decent but the camera became unusable. All pictures were slightly blurred and presented vignetting. That's when I decided to buy the high quality transparent rear panel...

My Fix

The repair was absolutely flawless...

My Advice

Don't go for cheap replacements... ;-)

My Problem

The home button on my iPhone 4 was flakey. Apparently, a common problem. I was holding out for the iPhone 5 announcement, and was somewhat underwhelmed. Once I finally decided NOT to upgrade, I knew I had to fix/replace my home button. Since I was going to replace it, I was going to make my phone unique so I got a white button for my black iPhone.

I also picked up the transparent rear panel because, why not? I _SAVING_ money by not buying an iPhone 5, right? ;-)

My Fix

Holy cats, the iPhone 4 was not designed to make it easy to replace the home button. iFixIt is NOT kidding when they rate that as 'Difficult.'

However, their instructions did not lead me astray. Following the guide got me to the home button with no surprises or extra work. Now my iPhone is a) functional, b) multi-colored and c) transparent!

My Advice

Pulling the display from the metal case was a lot harder than they made it sound. It was basically as described, but the fit was so tight that the iPod Opening Tool didn't want to slip in there. I ended up having to sacrifice a bit of scratching on my phone and use a very fine metal screwdriver to get between the plastic gasket thingie and the metal frame.

I would also recommend the magnetic screw mat for the task. These suckers are TINY, and it's not always easy to remember which one came from where. $deity help you if you drop one or accidentally knock it out of the way. I didn't have the magnetic screw mat and wish I did.

My Problem

A crack down the back of my iPhone 4 led me to look into purchasing a replacement.

My Fix

The transparent back is delightfully geeky. Repair is as simple as can be. Two screws, slide the back off, slide the new back on, two screws. Done. Seeing the iPhone 4's guts through the transparent back is absolutely beautiful.

My Advice

There is a small "sticker" on the back of the Apple iPhone 4 back, with a small contact spot on it. I had believed that this was part of the antenna assembly for the iPhone. (Not sure if it's for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3G?) In iFixit's own words, "You can also see pressure contact on the inner face of the rear panel for what appears to be an antenna." I haven't noticed any issues so far, but I don't use Bluetooth and I'm rarely on the phone. . .

My Problem

I wanted this clear back forever, but had no real reason to drop the money to buy it and the screwdriver needed. My camera lens finally got so scratched that I needed to do something and I finally had an excuse to buy this back.

My Fix

Super easy, but the back did not slide down as far as it should to have the same margin on the metal frame as the original. The black plastic also has a slightly more matte feel compared to the Apple back. These things are probably negligible to someone who's not an OCD Apple designer type.

Overall the repair was easy, but it was hard to push the panel as far down as it needed to be without feeling like I was going to break it.

My Advice

Blow dust out of your iPhone before putting on the new back for maximum sexiness. Also slide the panel down hard to get it close to as far as it should be down the case.

My Problem

Back was crack

My Fix

Easy
