My Problem

The power button stopped working.

My Fix

okay. took 3 hrs. The instructions did not mention the plastic cube that held the proximity and light sensors in place. The gaskets on the secondary mic and sensors were missing from the replacement part and I was not able to replace them in whole from the original part. I do not know how much this will shorten the life of the sensors and mic.

My Advice

A lot of work but you never know how much you use the lock/power button till it doesn't work. Take three separate taps to lock the phone using the accessibility functions.

My Problem

Power button got stuck, couldn't press down any longer plus battery was dying.

My Fix

Replaced the battery, the power button, and the sensor cable. Followed all the directions as carefully as I could. Everything works fine!

My Advice

Be careful, take your time, I got the Pro Tech Tool kit and screw mat for it. Also, take good pictures of your stuff every step of the way you can, at one point as I was putting the logic board back in, the rubber bumper on the end of it that protects the cables from wear and tear, fell out. I didn't know where it came from, so I looked at a pic I took during disassembly and luckily found where it fit.

My Problem

After over two years of carrying my iPhone without a case, I finally broke the screen on my iPhone. At about the same time, the battery wore out, the hold button stopped clicking, and the back panel was scratched enough to degrade image quality.

My Fix

Fine. I went slowly and carefully. I wrapped each part or screw in clear wrap and taped it to a sheet that I labeled with each step. It was tricky and slow going, but it was not as bad as I thought it might have been.

My Advice

Be careful, and listen to this who have gone before you. If you aren't a details/precision person. Don't try it. If you are, have at it.

My Problem

The power button quit working on my iphone 4 and I had been dealing with it for over 6 months by just letting the screen time out. I finally got sick of that and looked up how much it would be, turns out it was $30 for tools, parts and shipping through here, so I said why not.

My Fix

It took a long time, and I never thought the phone was going to work again. This was the first time I had ever even opened a phone before. But after 3 hours due to bumping my tote and mixing all the screws up, I got it back together and it works just as new now.

My Advice

Defiantly use something sticky to put all of the tiny screws on. I had them lined up in a shallow plastic tray and was doing well until I dropped the phone into the tray and mixed all the screws. Also a lighted magnifying glass and some soft tipped tweezers would have been nice.

My Problem

I was tired of having those two button malfunction on me often. So I looked up the guides on iFixit to see if I was up for it - and thankfully I was :)

My Fix

The repairs took quite some time. Especially getting the logic board back in place after replacing the power and sensor cable was a little tricky. But with patience and coffee it all worked out.

My Advice

Take your time with the repairs. Do not rush anything and above all - be patient!

My Problem

Like many others, the power button on my wife's iPhone 4 just stopped working. I tried a fix on YouTube that involved folding up a piece of paper and using it to put pressure on the power button. Surprisingly, the paper trick worked but only for a day or so. So, I went straight to iFixit to order a new power cable!

My Fix

The repair was INSANE! I've been working on electronics for many years and I would say that this is the second most difficult that I have performed. The first being a screen replacement on a 3rd generation iPod touch (the one where the screen and case are held together with copious amounts of glue).

I'll be honest, there are cheaper places to get parts but the parts they sell at iFixit are of higher quality than most other retailers. I'm not sure if all of their parts are, but the one I received was an Apple OEM part. Save yourself a lot of time and headache by buying the part from iFixit so you can support their endeavors and guarantee that you will receive a quality replacement. The last thing I wanted was to spend two hours replacing the cable just to find out that it doesn't work. That's why I bought from iFixit.

My Advice

The iFixit guide was a great help and the high resolution pictures showed me exactly where all the tiny screws were located. It is by far the best guide on the internet.

I recommend placing all the screws on a white piece of paper and labeling them by size. There were at least eight different sizes for my repair so it's a lot to keep track of. When it comes back in stock, I'll be picking up the magnetic repair mat that iFixit sells.

Thank you iFixit!

My Problem

The lock button was unresponsive for many months and took the device to replace it myself rather than pay triple digits for someone to do it for me.

My Fix

Was on the verge of peeing my pants at various points, but the guide was very helpful with its well taken and labeled photos.

My Advice

Have a very organized system to sort the various parts. It also helps tremendously to have the right tools. I didn't have the plastic repair pry tool and was concerned that I was going to break something the whole time.

My Problem

sensor problem - solved with the new screen and the sensor cable

home button pb - solved with the new one

My Fix

quite well, buy the screwMat, it is really help full !

My Advice

take your time ;-)

My Problem

I'm good with electronics so figured I'd give it a shot since the Apple Store wanted $150 to repair it and this was only $24.

My Fix

Since I had experience replacing it once with the piece of garbage from an eBay seller, this went smoothly with ifixit's guide and also a video on You Tube. It was 35 minutes from opening the case to closing the case! First time took me about 2 hours!

My Advice

Whatever you do, don't lose the small chrome piece common to the long screw at the top of the connectors cover. This must ground to the main board through the screw to the case to get good wireless signal. Trust me, without it, you have no wifi unless you're standing next to the router!

My Problem

The power/sleep button on top of my iPhone 4 had stopped working. It didn't click anymore, and only worked if you pushed down on it VERY hard.

My Fix

The repair took some time--almost 3 hours, I think. You have to remove a lot of the insides of the phone to get to the cable. I got a little nervous looking at all the parts sitting on my desk, but they all went back in. Have patience.

My Advice

I followed someone else's advice of putting the pieces (ESPECIALLY the screws) on a clean sheet of paper and labeling them. This was very helpful. If you wear reading glasses, I would recommend getting some kind of hands-free magnifier/light so you can get a good view of what you are working on. This was a very rewarding repair. The part was $20--a lot cheaper than replacing the phone.
