My Problem
Phone would randomly shut down during the middle of use, battery life at 0% even at full charge and fluctuating percentage.
My Fix
Easy fix, swapped out battery; hasn't died since. Phone works just as it did before problems.
My Advice
Maybe I was lucky with the battery, but just keep at it
My Problem
The iPhone 3g battery, which was in the phone had been used by my friend next door since it first came out, well as you would expect it wasn't holding a charge very long.
My Fix
I searched the web for a replacement iPhone 3g battery, then I was went to YouTube and looked for replacement proceedures. I found an iFixit video and the link. Well I'm a Linux guy, cost effectiveness is my top of the list item. First and foremost this is a great deal, I've been a computer network engineer and repair guy for 33 years and if I've Got Parts I'll fix it. However, even though everything went well i.e. disassembly, reassembly, it wasn't until I went to replace that last screw in the bottom (of the first two that were removed), that I lost one office my desk. First procedure was to grab a magnet and scan the carpet with the magnet, no results, scanned my tennis shoes, nada, disappointed leaned back and there it was on my office chair between my legs. Other than that everything went well, but please consider doing on a bigger table so as not to loose any of the tiny screws.
My Advice
Well I must say that what I've been doing for that 6 years since I retired is to repair old computers, re-install OS'es, add memory from other old computers that are just not repairable and once they're up and running I give them to those whose computers have died. Well with that in mind, since everyone is upgrading to the iPhone 4s from 3g/3gs/and 4 I've put out the word instead of tossing them away give them to me and I'll restore to original state (wiping any info off pertaining to the past user) and give them away if the next person will do the following: purchase the Battery Kit from iFixit, and then purchase the One (1) year GoPhone sim from AT&T which has 1,000 min for $100.00 and I'll give you a free iPhone, and start a iTunes account of your own, of course if you would like to donate any funds I would have not problem accepting it.
My Problem
The old battery wasn't lasting long at all
My Fix
Went very smooth
My Advice
If you're in need of a new iPhone 3G battery, do this, you can't go wrong.
My Problem
The battery died after 1 day of use
My Fix
The process went really fine with the ifixit repair manual ! it took less than 1 hour !
My Advice
Take your time, don't stress !
My Problem
iphone 3 battery couldn't keep a charge - Cell provider said it would cost upwards of $100 to send the phone out to have the battery replaced!?! Bought a new phone instead. My engineer brother said, order a new battery on iFixit and do it yourself. Didn't think I could do it myself - what do I know about electronics stuff?
My Fix
Hey! There's a GIRL in the video changing the iphone battery! With my inner GirlGeek awakened, I ordered the battery, and the spudger (have to google the etymology for that!) that other reviewers suggested. I had a paperclip and a suction cup handy already. The package arrived quickly. Maybe too quickly! Uh, oh, now I have to try this. Wow! Such tiny-ness! Miniature connectors! I scrutinized the pictures in the online instructions... I was terrified I'd break something. Excellent suggestion from another reviewer to use tape to keep track of those tiny screws & bits! (I also labeled the bits of tape) The little magnetic screwdriver in the kit is Fantastic. I had my own philips head screwdriver with a larger grip handle, but opted for the magnetized one in the kit. I followed the instructions, which were excellent, and kept the comments from the video in mind (such as coming from the side with the spudger to release the old battery from the adhesive)... and finished reassembling the phone without any extra parts. The iphone turned on and charged up fine! Yea! I ended up starting one late afternoon, got called away, and finished the next day... I was being super careful and was terrified of breaking something since I've NEVER taken apart a cell phone before, so it took me much much longer than it should have. (& I'm slow anyway.) I could definitely do it faster now!
My Advice
What I discovered in this adventure: I CAN DO THIS! I should also probably listen to my brother more... And I'm old enough now that I need reading glasses for seeing tiny things like this...
Wish I had known about iFixit before buying another cell phone, but now this phone is functioning again!
The reviewer comments were immensely helpful, especially the tips to keep organized while dismantling, and the success stories bolstered my own confidence, too.
For the next person doing this repair: do your homework with the video and instructions, read the comments, prepare a good work space with ample light, keep it organized. You can do this! And save a bunch of money in the process!
It would be great if you all could take the used batteries, or suggest where the used batteries can be properly disposed of.
Now i'm going to be running around the house looking for other e gadgets in need of repair! There's no stopping me now!
My Problem
The battery was shot. It wouldn't hold a charge for more than a few minutes. I was using an external battery case with it, but when that battery ran low and I didn't notice, the phone would crash. The last time it crashed, it rebooted only to the "plug into iTunes" screen, and I was left with a jailbroken, unlocked brick.
My Fix
As I had never opened an iPhone before, I took my time with the repair; it took me about an hour. The parts that made me the most nervous were first, taking the screen off. You have to use quite a bit of force to remove the glass from the metal bezel and I was afraid it would break loose taking a few cables with it. The other was removing the actual battery. It's glued in well, and again I was afraid of damaging the chassis as I pried away. I didn't have a hair dryer, as is recommended to loosen the glue, so I used a gas stovetop burner - probably not recommended, but it helped!
My Advice
I now have a "new" phone, jailbroken, unlocked on iOS 4.2.1 The crash actually helped me, as I added multitasking this time which I love! The Hardest time with the whole process actually was filling out this form! Below this box it says drop images here. After I had written my Pulitzer prize winning essay, I dragged an image onto that box, and it took me to another screen, and my essay was never to be seen again. So, sorry, all you get is this note now!
My Problem
My wife's iPhone stopped charging and was dead and useless.
My Fix
iFixit was awesome. I got the battery for a great price and their online repair steps were easy to read and follow. I was SO happy with how it turned out. The phone works great now and charges beautifully! Thanks iFixit :)
My Advice
Don't give up on broken devices. It's worth giving the repair a shot.
My Problem
Well the problem was that the battery would not charge anymore the phone only worked when plugged in.
My Fix
The repair was easy and the instructions "Installing iPhone 3G Battery" were easy to follow, unfortunately I still had the same problem, so I think it may be the Dock Connector so I order a new connector and I’m currently waiting for it. I will update after I replace the connector.
My Advice
None at this time.
My Problem
The iPhone is over 3 years old and battery was bearly lasting a few hours.
My Fix
The repair went smoothly for the most parts. Took a while because was being very careful.
My Advice
Only a few minor things to mention is that the suction cup was hard to grab and pull up, and the guide at the end mentions something about reconnecting the camera to the main board but I never had to disconnect it.
My Problem
Water damage and subsequent battery problems
My Fix
All according to plan. 10 minutes and it was done
My Advice
Be gentle, give it the respect it deserves and you will be fine. Only tricky part is having to slide in the display cable. The rest is simple.
