iPhone 4 Specs Revealed

June 7, 2010 Hardware, Site News — Miro

Steve Jobs just announced the new iPhone 4. We were surprised that some of the inner workings of the phone were revealed, a first for Apple.

Some great new features of the new iPhone 4:

  • Glass front and back, steel frame. The frame is used as part of the antenna system, which should make reception much better.
  • Apple A4 processor confirmed.
  • 5MP camera with LED flash, shoots 720p video at 30 FPS!
  • “Retina Display” with 326 ppi density. That translates to a 3.5″ display with a 960×460 resolution, 78% of the pixels of the much-larger iPad.
  • A new battery that allows for “7 hours of 3G talk, 6 hours of 3G browsing, 10 hours of WiFi browsing, 10 hours of video, 40 hours of music…”
  • A three-axis gyroscope!
  • Video conferencing with a front-facing camera through Wi-Fi.

This is how the internal frame/antennas look:

Apple also showed off some of the manufacturing processes for the iPhone 4 frame:

Pre-orders start on June 15th; you’ll be able to hold one in your hands (and we’ll be tearing one down) on the 24th. Big thanks to Engadget for providing the photos. Go figure, we’re not on Apple’s invite list for these events!

  2. It’s so sad when people like this are ill informed and fall for the salesmens pitch of megapixels make better pictures, when its not that simple!!!

Dude, the sensor / optic quality makes better pictures, higher megapixels help marginally but in the main the more megapixels, the larger the image can be blown up without pixelation.

Since a 2.1mp picture can be blown up to a 5ft projector screen (see video evidence from channel 5′s gadget show), perhaps you should pay more attention to the steps apple have taken to improve the camera on the iPhone 4 rather than just spouting irrelevant specs at us!?!

I for one am glad people like you get sucked into the specs game the lesser suppliers have to play with Apple, because it means suppliers (like HTC) will continue to churn out high specs into poor quality kit which will never actually work very well but what it does do it push Apple to release better quality kit with their UI finess which does actually work, and that benefits the rest of us :-)

  4. I’ve heard good things about Android phones, but I’ve never used one so I won’t comment, but I for one just laugh at people who bash Apple products specs. I have a friend who’s extremely tech oriented and has always hated on just about anything Apple has done; well he just bought an iPad (because he says it’s easier to troubleshoot downed servers when he’s on the go and is way easier to carry around than a laptop).

  6. Its good to see Steve Jobs pulling this one, even we already have seen those leaks before. I think it’s not only great. But Magical as well, in a sense that they manage to improve the 3GS iPhone.

Although, I was realy hoping that announcement of iPhone landing on Red V. Anyway, I guess we’ll know more sooner. All the questions about iPhone 4 answered.
