Revision to Bicycle Troubleshooting
''Bike squeaks when riding or pedaling''
locate exactly where the noise is coming from. squeaking comes from moving parts that are not properly lubricated. so if the bike is squeaking and you are not pedaling then it cannot be coming from the drive system. it might be shocks or something connected to the wheels.common sources include; rear derailleur, chain links, pedals, shocks, or just about any moving part.
there are lots of both wet and dry lubricants you can use. whet ones usually collect more dirt and turn into black cakes of grease if they are exposed to outside conditions but are much cheaper. WD-40, engine oil, and lithium grease can work for most applications. dry lubricants will keep your bike from getting dirty and make it easier to clean and re-lubricate.
check to see if the noise is gone. it may take a while for the lubricant to set in and coat the application area. wipe off exes lubricant and you are good to go.
