  • Answer to: How do I fix a shattered screen on my iPod touch?

You need to buy a new glass/LCD screen. Then follow the instructions to open and take apart the iPod here: iPod Touch 4th Generation Teardown If you have specific questions along the way, let me know!
  • Answer to: Anytime crazy lines appear HHEELLPP

First, I would suggest restoring the software using iTunes. Just plug in your iPod to your computer, open iTunes, and restore the system (make sure your music is all backed up in iTunes first). If, after restoring, it is still showing lines, then probably you need a new LCD screen. They're not currently available on iFixit, but you should be able to buy one on eBay, or send it in for professional repair. Let me know if you still can't get it!
  • Answer to: ipad only boots to displays apple logo

Have you tried plugging it in to a mac? If you do, open Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility) and see if it shows up there at all. If it does, try to reformat the drive, and then open it up in iTunes and restore it. If it isn't responding to the computer at all, and holding down the main button doesn't do anything but reset it to being frozen on the apple logo, I'm guessing you've still got a hardware issue (probably not just that screw.) Take it apart again, and make sure everything is connected correctly and securely and locked in.. but if it still doesn't work, you might just be looking at needing a new logic board (perhaps something was broken or something that you can't even notice in the logic board). Good luck!
  • Answer to: Faulty sound on earphones and dock

Unfortunately, this is most likely a logic board issue. If the sound is messed up both out of the dock AND out of the headphones, i've found in the past that this indicates a faulty logic board.
  • Answer to: I dismantled iPod's screen and Ribbon is separated

If you are unsure how to reassemble the ribbon, just take a look at iFixit.com's guide on the iPod Touch: [[Device:iPod Touch 3rd Generation]]
  • Answer to: Hard drive cable has disconnected how do I re-connect it?

If you do not see the little (i believe black) tab that should flip down to hold the hard drive connector in place, there is a good chance it has been broken off the motherboard. You can either try to just stick in the hard drive connector and hold it on with tape (probably not a good long term solution) or you'll probably need to get a new motherboard.
  • Answer to: I have dismantled iPod and it won't work .

Which generation of iPod Touch do you have? iFixit has detailed guides to help you reassemble your iPod: [[Family:iPod_Touch]]
  • Answer to: remove data and save

search google for "program download to move songs from iPod to computer for mac" (or PC if you have one).
  • Answer to: Front Panel replaced, still no touch

Here's the possible problems (in order of probability): 1) Make sure the connections are secure (perhaps try disconnecting and reconnecting) 2) It is REALLY easy to even minorly ripped the cable, or even bent it, it won't work. 3) The replacement might be faulty. 4) You might have the wrong generation/style of digitizer.
  • Answer to: Why does my iPod seem to not retain charge?

If you pulled the small plastic piece off the motherboard, you may need to replace the motherboard unless you are able to carefully just set the connector piece back in place and get the battery to lock into place. I would suggest fiddling around with the connection (carefully) and see if you can then get it to charge.

Notes

  • iPod nano 5th Generation Teardown

To take off the glass, do we do it similarly to the 4th gen nano, where you just push it towards the clickwheel a bit to loosen the top first? or is a different method better here?

  • iPad Wi-Fi Teardown

wow, that is small for these. the machinery gets bigger, the screws get smaller.

  • iPad Wi-Fi Teardown

looks sorta similar to taking apart an iPod touch, just a lot bigger.. that about right, or are the clips somehow fundamentally different than the Touch's?

  • Installing iPod Touch 2nd Generation Front Panel

    Quote from mikeseptak:

If you bought a new front panel there is a rubber seal around it so dont worry about ripping it up to open your iPod

sometimes if you buy a new front it doesn't come with the front bezel, so make sure it does before you rip the old one up. otherwise you can get a new front bezel from ebay.

  • Installing iPod Touch 2nd Generation Front Panel

Careful not to use a (metal) spudger too hard, or it's really easy to bust the LCD screen with the pressure.

  • Installing iPod 3rd Generation Hard Drive Cable

This is often a good fix if the iPod is giving you a sad face-- it might not be the hard drive, just the hard drive connector!

  • Installing iPod 3rd Generation Case

Remember to fold the backplate up the correct direction, otherwise you might break this cable.

  • Installing iPod Classic Front Panel

I would suggest prying with a tool on one of the lips that holds the front place on, but do NOT pry on one near the LCD screen or you may damage the screen. Also, don't forget there is an extra small latch on the top of the LCD that has to be loosened too.

  • Installing iPod Nano 3rd Generation Logic Board

If your headphone jack isn't working, note that it is possible to replace just the headphone jack here:

There are just 4 soldering points that need to be loosened, and then you can put on the new one.

  • Installing iPod Nano 4th Generation Logic Board Assembly

Follow this picture exactly, inserting the tool in the dock port to pry off the bottom plastic piece-- if you pry on the edges you may bend or break this plastic piece.
