rj713 is right. Ebay. Find a reputable seller with a good return policy. Saves you a lot of time. Also i am sure the keyboard you have is little worn out anyways. just double check to get the right version of top case.

let me know if you need further help, good luck!

    Hello,

water spill seems to be very common.

@jennkrys how much experience do you have as far as taking the laptop apart. I think it's more cost effective if you just buy a new keyboard and replace the current one. They are around $40. Because either way you will have to take the laptop apart to clean the keyboard, and even then it might not work. U might as well save the time and get a new keyboard. Try an external keyboard and if it works, then it's the problem with the keyboard, not the logic board.

@MacCoffee i have the same laptop. unfortunately for you the keyboard/topcase is really expensive right now. $200-250. I think there is a post regarding cleaning the keyboards, it's tedious process, i will post the link when i find it.

@Sarabian lol very wise you are

@bpfamily i don't think your daughter would want to run a server, but like Sarabian said, memory upgrades are very possible and effective.

  • Re: Macbook Pro problem-overheated and screen is black now Jul 14 @ 5:09 AM

i think the problem is you burned out the backlight for the screen or something along the line. If you leave it on the bed it could get to some 80+C and it will melt some components. Are you good at taking things apart? if you remove the top case you will get a better idea of what's going on. Maybe a burned out inverter, back light bulb, or cable. All this assuming that the computer is still functioning just not displaying. All of the problem above could be fixed with new parts at a much lower cost than a new laptop. However if the logic board, then it will cost you almost a new laptop to replace it.

    Keep me updated thanks,

  • Re: Increasing temp's keeping me down!~ Jul 14 @ 3:45 AM

I just tried FanControl (the top hit when you google mac fan control) on my macbook and it does give me complete control of the fan speed. I am not sure if it will help your situation but at least you can be more proactive instead of waiting for the apple fan control software to kick in.

as far as the green drives goes. they have less power consumption, which i suppose does translate to lower temp. a google search give me a bunch. Seagate seems to be popular.

I also did a quick google search and 60s are not uncommon for macbooks. The CPU shut down temp. is 100C or something. which is scary considering that it makes your laptop a water boiler. But it does give you a idea of the range. The FanControl software has a default max fan speed at 80C. Hope this answers your tape ribbon question.

I don't know, just give you some info i thought was useful/interesting. Considering Apple want things to look slick and refuse to build in side air ducts, it's hard to make things cool in general. Remember the first gen, intel MBP? People scorch their labs with that thing. My unibody macbook works fine but it definitely could run cooler for a 45nm Core 2 Duo notebook. Time to bring out the dremel! lol

    Hopefully it helped a little.

  • Re: Increasing temp's keeping me down!~ Jul 13 @ 3:30 AM

you are welcome. I know what you mean, something must have aged to cause the increase in operation temp. In the case of MB tho the CPU is soldered onto the motherboard. I know, it's one of the most useless inventions. I mean it does make the notebook super thin, which fits Apple's marketing agenda, but i wouldn't mind having the ability to install a new cpu, or in your case reapply newer cooling cream.

also, I am not too sure if the fan loses efficiency over time? I know it's at 6200RPM but numbers could be deceiving. what you think?

  • Re: Macbook logic board upgrade core duo 1.8ghz to 2.0ghz Jul 12 @ 4:49 PM

I don't know, new once are nice tho. You can get a slightly used Unibody Macbook for $800ish and that will last you much longer than a logic board upgrade. This is just my two cent. I am looking at it in term of investment vs. return. But then again, we all have different reasons.

    * close to impossible in the sense that Macbook is a man made machine and you could make it work, some how. I know this guy who put the MBA keys into a white MB. he has a degree in EE tho.
