Re: Macbook Pro Not Starting (Sleep Light Dim) Jul 3 @ 3:14 AM
Quote from kylos:
My problem turned out to be mechanical in nature. One of the mounting tabs holding the top cover in place had broken off and fallen underneath the left IO board (I thought the part had fallen out of the computer). Removing the tab fixed the boot issue, but the speakers still don't work; external audio, however, does work. I think the tab may have short-circuited something and fried the speaker circuit. I'm just fortunate that nothing else appears to be damaged.
Could you provide a picture of the fallen part? Coz I still haven't figured out my problem yet. Thanks

Is my Logic Board dead? or is it the left I/O board Jul 4 @ 4:21 PM
After almost 3 years flawless service, my Macbook Pro Core Duo 15' can not boot any more.
No matter attach battery or not, after I turn it on, the sleep light is on, but there's no chime, and clearly no further boot up, the MBP does not pass its inital hardware test.
I've checked ram and HD, they are in good status.
It all began 2 weeks ago. Firstly, more and more frequent Kernel Panic (especially when work on battery or swith Wifi connections); and then, it has boot-up problem, it was getting worse about 1 week ago, I can barely (1 out of 20) boot it to Target Disk Mode/ or AHT (but passed).
I've done a little bit research and think the long lasting over-heating problem of 1st gen MBP might have burnt my logic board/left io board down, before I make a further purchase here, I want to make sure which one is malfunction (or both of them...? ....)
Here're the pictures I shot after the 1 hour teardown of my MBP, the suspect point on the logic board seems burnt to me... although I didn't smell anything...
logic board 1
logic board 2
logic board 3
left I/O board magsafe
Hope the experts here can help me... thanks!
