Got an Apple Black/White CoreDuo2 open to tell me what's up? Aug 22 @ 7:27 AM
I just completed my work on a coreduo 2 replacing the entire case.
My question, replacing the screws on the bottom case in the back near the hinge I found one to be particularly difficult to fasten. From the back (L-R) its number 3. Its the longer of the two back there. If anyone can describe this area I'd appreciate it.

Wow--strange topcase malfunction on my Macbook Core 2 Duo Jul 9 @ 11:29 AM
I bought this used topcase for my macbook core duo 2, 2.0 mhz. The keyboard works fine when just pluggged it into the board. The trouble is when the last screw is put in and the battery loaded. I loose the backspace, space, right bracket, quote and question mark key functionality. The trouble goes away when the keyboard is loose.
The keyboard is absolutely clean. What gives?
LCD Cover Alignment - Macbook Core 2 Duo Full Case Replacement Jun 25 @ 1:20 PM
Will someone who has performed a LCD replacement comment about aligning the LCD cover/Lid to the bottom case?
I replaced the LCD lid/cover and the alignment is off by 1/8in approximately. I read the LCD replacement tutorial; however, there was no mention of this finishing touch.

Macbook Core 2 Duo Full case replacement - No Joy! Jun 24 @ 1:12 PM
I did the nasty! I replaced the bottom case, LCD cover/lid back, and top case/keyboard. I used the tutorials for top and bottom case and another for the LCD back (I thought I had a bookmark for an ifixit tutorial on the lid but I couldn't find it. Is it part of another tutorial?) It took 4 hours.
Everything went smoothly from the iFixit tutorial (and I added a note to step 21). I have one case issue--the lid doesn't align exactly. Its 1/8in off alignment. Likely from the removal and replacement of the hinge in the lid? I changed the lid during the bottom case tutorial.
Right now the trouble is the macbook is not working. The power jack lights up. The hard drive lights up and spins briefly. The DVD spins briefly when I inserted a disk. The screen flickers briefly. The power button will turn it on. CTRL+Apple+Power will shut it off. That is all I get to do. I faddled with the keys to try to determine if the machine is working just without the screen--no real clue here. My main concern is the screen is black. (I ran into this only once before when I tried to resurrect my 7500 for Yellow Dog--same black screen, and I'm getting very nervous). Did I damage the processor?
I'm in NY and its humid. I don't think I statically zapped the board. I did the work on a large table at my local library. I had plenty of room. I set out the parts as I removed them, placing them on bubble wrap so as not to damage the delicate back of the motherboard. I was warned to take care with the LCD. I lifted the LCD, careful not to touch the back, and placed it directly and immediately into the new lid. If I zapped something, then when? Cuz the computer was working before I made the case changes. If there is a danger in the tutorial we should find it and add a note.
This sucks. It ruined my day. Maybe the last two months, and the next three it'll take to save up the replacement kash.

The original was a version one. The replacement was a version two. I used the original with the new bottom case and there was no trouble. Will post news as it occurs. Also think I jacked my isight when I replaced the LCD lid (*&*^)!

It may be one of two things. Its hard to tell, but the hinge looks like it is bent slightly. I bought the laptop used so I do not know its history, however the lid and base aligned fine before I made the case switches. Chris

> routing of the cabling from under and around the hinges
Thats a good idea. I thought it might also be due to the order I screwed down the hinges. Just a thought.

Installing MacBook Core 2 Duo Optical Drive Jun 24 @ 12:23 PM
STEP 20 - IMPORTANT= This screw secures a mounting bracket on the optical drive. This bracket's eyelets are slotted. The right side of the bracket has a tab inserted in the bottom case. After removing the screw, use the spudger to slide the bracket to the left. This disengages the tab from the right side of the case, thus allowing the optical drive to be lifted out in step 23.
