  • Garbled lines on MBP screen, externa monitor fine Jun 10 @ 9:42 AM

I was replacing a dim LCD with dark spots on a 2.33 GHz 17" MacBook Pro. This computer also would sometimes boot up with lines all over the screen. This happened about 25% of the time, and normally a reboot fixed it. I assumed there was a loose connection, and that replacing the LCD should take care of that too.

With this new screen, I am finding that the computer initially boots up to a gray screen and the Apple logo (which should indicate the LCD is fine), but as soon as the desktop is supposed to appear, the picture actually degrades into lines. I also have an external monitor attached via DVI, and the picture is perfect on the external.

I am guessing that the video cable between logic board and LCD is bad or frayed, and that in taking the MBP apart I ended up making the problem worse. I double-checked the connections on both ends, and it appears fine. I don't think the symptoms would indicate problems with the inverter board or logic board.

What do you guys think? Thanks!

Will you guys eventually sell just the keyboards?

It may be 50 screws, but you underestimate what lengths some of us will go to in order to try to save some money.

Also, a second question- do you know if the unibody MB, MBP, and MBA possibly use the same keyboard?

    Thanks.
