(May be out of the scope of the site, but I wanted to see if I was alone in this)

Is anyone else using OS 10.5 Server? I have the 10-user version.

I'm having the strangest issue with it on my new Mac Mini and OSX Server. I did a base install and enabled Web Services, iCal, Mail, and iChat. I only did the install and didn't try to pre-configure anything. I did this 9 times. Every time I did it, one of the services was broken. The first few times I tried to diagnose and fix them, but nothing worked. After that I just wiped and reinstalled. On the 9th time everything seemed to be working fine.

Since then whenever I do an update that requires me to restart, something is broken on restart. This last time the wiki and user blogs were just gone. My blog said "User is not allowed a blog." Then after 2 days they just appeared again.

The hardware is a brand new 1.8GHz Mac Mini I got just before they updated them. No upgrades were done to it. I installed it to an old G5 iMac before the Mini arrived just to play with it and see the new features. The install went perfectly fine the first time and had zero issues in the 5 or 6 days it was on it. Maybe I should just use the old iMac? It's getting annoying because I depend on that machine daily.

My phone speaker keeps cutting in and out badly all of a sudden. Does anyone know if that speaker is replaceable? I tried looking at the take apart guides but cannot conclusively tell. I know it's not the sound system because the speakerphone and headset work fine for a call. It seems almost as if there is a short in the speaker wire.

The 15" MacBookPro4,1 (Model Number - A1260 and Order Number - MB133LL/A) was made from February 2008 to October 2008. The 2.4GHz listed at $1,999 and had a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo "Penryn" processor with 3 MB Cache and an 800MHz bus speed. GeForce 8600M GT graphics with 256MB RAM were standard on the 2.4GHz.

Not sure exactly what information you were looking for, so I listed the main items.

I'm sure they're very sorry for making things so easy for you. They'll apologize very soon and very eloquently for having resources that are always immediately available and easy to use. Shame on them for being an enabler like this! Fie! For shame!

Glad things worked so well for you. I had nothing to do with any of it, but liked the post. : )

Most likely the internal hard drive was damaged. I would replace the hard drive.

Most likely you bumped a connector while replacing items in the Mini. It's easy to do. I would go through and unplug and then replug the connectors, making sure they are all seated well. Doing the Disk Utility repair won't help this.

Speaking in actual English while not using numbers as letter? Priceless.

If another Mac can boot from the disk, then you may have a drive that is going out.

Assuming of course that you are not trying to boot from a disk that has a version earlier than the computer shipped with. If so, it won't boot from that.

You know, that might be an interesting thing for this site - "iFixed it!" stickers. You can buy one with another purchase for like 50 cents or something. I know I'd sure buy some.

Ok, I'm done thinking out loud. (Hey, it's loud to type on this keyboard)

As I tell everyone that asks if this is something I can do on my own: Sure it is - if you know how. If a tech can do it, you can do it. But you have to know how.

The guides on this site are an outstanding way to learn how, so if you are willing to risk your computer and think your skills are up to the task (have faith in yourself) then sure you can. Many people do it and save a ton of cash.

Have fun doing it, and when you're done be sure to tell people "iFixed it!"

Most likely the combo drive is bad or going bad.

Try booting from the OS DVD and see if the performance is the same. If it is, then it's most likely a hardware issue. If not, then it's a software problem. Using something like Tech Tool Pro or DiskWarrior would be my first choice to try to fix a software issue. Reinstalling the OS (Archive and Install option) would be another avenue.
