Answer to: How do I re-establish an IP address?
Hi Robin! I will assume that you have a wireless router that gives out IPs automatically when connecting to your network and it's protected by a password. If that's the case, we should consider the following options: Reset iPod's wifi settings: 1) On your iPod, go to Settings -> Wi-Fi 2) Make sure Wi-Fi switch is set to "ON" 3) In the list of wireless networks under the "Choose a Network" label, find your wifi 4) If there is NO check mark on it, tap on it and enter your wifi password; if there IS a check mark tap on the arrow that's on the right side (white arrow in a blue circle), then select "Forget this Network". A confirmation popup will appear - tap on the red "Forget" button. 5) All the fields like IP, Mask, etc. should now be blank; tap on the "Wi-Fi Networks" arrow that's in the top left corner of the screen 6) There shouldn't be a check mark next to your wifi name anymore; tap on your wifi and enter the password; tap the Join button and in a moment you should be reconnected to your router. Answer to: Replacing dead hdd, having to boot from disc?
Hi Mammakim4him! You haven't mentioned the exact model of your MacBook. I have ran into some issues on particular 17" MBPs installing older systems. My choice would be installing Mac OS X Lion 10.7. Expensive ($70) and fast way: The fastest way to do so is to buy a thumb drive from local Apple Store: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD256Z... They are always in stock, however paying $70 might not be the best choice since Apple is about to release 10.8 Mountain Lion in a while. Less expensive ($30) and slow way: An other option would be to download a copy from Mac App Store. http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/os-x-lion/id444303913?mt=12 In this case you'll have to: 1. Have a Mac with at least Snow Leopard (with App Store) 2. Wait until almost 4Gb download 3. Extract a bootable DMG image from the downloaded software 4. Burn it on a DVD Free: Borrow a copy from someone. Or find a way to download a file called "InstallESD.dmg" - the bootable image of Lion installation :) Either way is fairly simple to install and I'... -
Answer to: Red lines on display where black should be.
One of my macs has the same issue. It's a Macbook Pro 15" Late 2006 MA610LL A1211 It's whether the screen cable's connector or the port on the logic board. Whenever the black goes red I press down the keyboard, over the following buttons: [;'p I don't feel like taking this laptop apart right now, but if the "pressure" workaround will keep working, I'll just open it up and apply couple of layers of electric black tape over the flex cable connection.
