I have the exact same problem. My battery went within a year to 49% and suddenly within a week it just died. Maybe this was my fault because i accidentally connected my Air 45W adaptor until it gave me an error that power is not enough. As so this battery maybe just got killed by me. Anyway, as you did, i also purchased an A1382 battery as their site was saying that a1321 and a1382 are compatible and ended up with this different connector. The first thought was to change the connector adapter with the previous battery's connector but then i decided it was better to just cut the extra plastic part and make it look like the original connector. I managed to make it as clean as i could and the adapter of the new battery fits perfect to the 9-pin socket. Unfortunately it does not get recognized by my MBP mid2010 laptop and there is an "x" in the battery indicator of osx as there is no battery at all connected. So back to the beginning.
