Answer to: Sending and receiving a fax
It may not be the most elegant way to find out, but you could send a fax to someone and have them tell you what number it is coming from. -
Answer to: Unknown part for 4s
It's this little guy! It is a grounding finger for the rear facing camera, and the link should show you exactly where it goes. Hope this helps! Happy Fixing! -
Answer to: Why doesn't my iPad start up?
Hey Phillip, Assuming you didn't spill any liquid on it, I would recommend taking it into an Apple store and seeing if they will replace it for you. Though we usually prefer repair over replacement, none of the iPads are very much fun to take apart. Before you look into opening it up, try and get it replaced for free. It can't hurt to ask! Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes! -
Answer to: Cleaning fans, other tasks to do?
Hey Evans, Good call on cleaning the fans! That should definitely help out the performance of your 40 month old machine. The other two upgrades you proposed seem like great ideas to us — perfectly reasonable. One other suggestion for while you're in there, if you haven't already, is to replace the thermal paste. Apple products have been known to ship out with very little thermal paste, so replacing it after 40 months is a great idea. Here is the type of thermal paste that we usually use, along with some techniques for installing new thermal paste. Have fun inside your laptop! Happy Fixing! -
Answer to: Is it possible to disconnect wifi from iPod touch?
Hey Cheryl, You can remove the Wi-Fi board, but taking apart the iPod touch is not very much fun! It requires a lot of heat-gunning and small part prying. Luckily, there is a really easy fix! A quick Google search told me that you can pretty easily block everything that uses Wi-Fi and require a password to access it. Go to Settings>General>Restrictions> Enable Restrictions and it will ask for a 4 digit password. Then turn everything on. This way, you can go back in and turn it off at a later time if you want to, and you don't have to worry about taking the device apart! Hope this helps! Happy fixing! -
Answer to: 3rd versus 4th generation
Hey Mats, Sorry to hear about your iPod Classic. It's still the best Apple product of all, in my opinion, but getting an iPod Touch is certainly not a bad trade-in! Apple actually made a big jump from the 3rd generation ipod touch to the 4th generation ipod touch. Check out those links to the teardowns if you want an in-depth look into the differences. Otherwise, here are a few of the highlights: - Better speakers - Slimmer - Better processor (Apple A4. Same one found in the iPhone 4 and iPad 1) - Front-facing camera Basically, the 4th Generation touch will be a little bit sleeker, faster, and has a front-facing camera. Both are pretty solid devices and should suit you very well. Neither has an advantage in memory or storage, so it really comes down to a) how much the listed features above matter to you, and b) the price difference between the two and how much you want to spend. I hope this helps you make your decision! Good luck! -
Answer to: How do I Replace the Screen?
Hey Link30, It sounds like you definitely have a broken display assembly on your hands. A quick online search took me to this site that sells replacement Display Assemblies for your device. Unfortunately, as you mentioned, we do not yet have a guide that shows how to install a new display assembly. Luckily, the motherboard installation guide that you mentioned will get you pretty darn close! If you look at the last picture in the motherboard guide seen here, it looks as if the only other part you will need to remove is the gray and black plastic plate protecting the display assembly. You can even see the orange board underneath that looks just like the one in the product image on the first site I linked to. If you feel like getting your feet a little wet in the DIY-repair world, we say go for it! You can even take a picture or two to add to a new guide for showing other people how to install a new display assembly, if you so desire! Hope this helps! Good luck, and let us know how it goes! Happy fixing! -
Answer to: Worked fine after lcd/digitizer replacement untill this morning.
Hey Rob, It sounds like one of the connectors probably wasn't connected all the way and came loose while you were using it. Try opening the device back up and checking all of the connections, especially the one that connects to the dock connector ribbon cable. Hope this helps! Let us know how it goes; good luck! -
Answer to: White small plate part
Hey Fabian, We currently do not sell that part, and a quick online search proved unfruitful. I think that your best bet would be to try and buy an old broken device off of someone (maybe on eBay?) for a cheap price and take the part out of that device to install in yours. It is a rather low-demand part, so buying it individually may be hard. I assure you there are plenty of people that would be willing to sell a broken device, though! Hope this helps! Let us know how it goes; good luck!

iPhone 4 Teardown
We are glad to hear that you are looking to our site for guidance. However, we would like to make sure you know that the Teardown Flag at the top of all teardowns explains, "Teardowns provide a look inside a device and should not be used as disassembly instructions." We strongly urge users not to follow teardowns, as they are intended for information and entertainment. Luckily, we have this extremely comprehensive list of guides (as opposed to teardowns) right here.

Psych, Psyche, Sike? It's tough to determine the correct spelling for a slang word. We chose to go with "sike" simply because it looks cool and Urban Dictionary featured it as their word of the day on November 24, 2007. :)
