Answer to: How comes my backlight is not working
The click wheel attaches by a small ribbon cable to the logic board. It's possible that the click wheel is fine but that the logic board is damaged by water. I once had an ipod that would only sporadically recognize the click wheel. It turned on and off sometimes when it wasn't supposed to....it was a logic board problem. If it is only the click wheel it is a super easy replacement piece. -
Answer to: I need a new white menu cover for the click wheel?
Thank you. From the price of it I may be better off buying someone else's totaled ipod and using the click wheel part from it. -
Answer to: How do i fix the hold button (its stuck on hold) my ipod got wet
Wait until the ipod dries out. Why won't the hold switch work? Did you lose it in the water tank? You can pull off the top white plastic bezel. There should be a hold switch that comes out easily. Make sure it is in the right place. There should also be a small, red, plastic dot attached to the metal below that moves back and forth. If you don't have a hold switch you can take your finger, click the red dot in the other direction and it should remove the hold, if it is already on hold. -
Answer to: Why don't my play and back buttons work?
I have some experience working with click wheels and here's my guess: The plastic menu button on the front of the ipod is not properly fitted over the metal disks underneath it. I've had times where I put the plastic piece on wrong and all of a sudden there is no click sound or tension when I press a button - it just feels stiff and wrong. To remove the click wheel, take something very thin and strong - I use a fingernail (be wary of scratching the ipod casing with metal parts), and pry up under the clickwheel toward the center until it lifts up. Be careful about the area near 9 'o clock as there is a ribbon cable leading to the logic board and you don't want to damage it. Also make sure that the click wheel is connected to the logic board. Just press your finger where the ribbon cable meets the ipod and make sure it is well-connected. -
Answer to: Why does it lose its charge fast
Don't open it if it is still under warranty. Get it to Apple and have them replace the battery.
