  • Answer to: Is the inverter cable?

It is probably the video chip or processor. Unfortunately, the best fix is a logic board replacement, as both are soldered to it.
  • Answer to: Power supply makes a high pitched whine noise

Good for them! They don't hear the whine because older folks usually suffer from decreased hearing in the high frequency region.
  • Answer to: Case for the Superdrive Unit

I am not aware of any external enclosure that will work on the Superdrive. Sell it so someone else can put it to good use, and use the proceeds to by an external DVD writer if you really need one.
  • Answer to: Why is my computer so sluggish?

Flash runs very poorly in Apple's PPC computers. It's just the way it is. My suggestions re your sluggish laptop is to run the disk utilities (verify disk and repair permissions). This has worked wonders for my slow Powerbook in the past. It will also tell you if you need to change your hard drive.
  • Answer to: Adapting a 17" G5 PSU for a 20" iMac

I am in the same predicament. For bench testing, that PSU will work. But the 17" iMac PSU sockets won't line up with the holes for the AC cord and Kensington lock of the back of the 20" iMac.
  • Answer to: Screen will not light up unless external video is connected

If you get it to power on and you get video to its own LCD, try just putting it in sleep instead of turning it off. Sleep mode uses only 3-4% of battery power overnight. Perhaps the LCD will remain normal when you next wake it up.
  • Answer to: Will power supply for 1.8 GHz 17" work in my 2GHz 20"?

Update on this. Apparently the PSU from the 17" will work in the 20" and vice versa but only for bench testing purposes. Their physical configuration will not allow an "into the chassis" permanent exchange.
  • Answer to: Will power supply for 1.8 GHz 17" work in my 2GHz 20"?

Yes, the 2 power supplies look different in the location of the AC input socket and the Kensington lock. The rest of the external features look the same. I've looked at the PSU ratings of the iMacs from 2005-2006 (17" and 20" LCDs) and they are all 180 watts. I suppose the pinouts are also the same. Maybe they can be interchangeable. I'll see the seller tomorrow and compare the 2 units side by side.
  • Answer to: will airport work without the display

Yes, your airport would be severely crippled if you removed the antennae which are in the LCD assembly. I suppose the rest of the computer would work if you did, and used an external display. If you have a wired LAN cable connection, you may use that instead of the Airport to connect to the network.
  • Answer to: Can't charge my phone because of bad USB connector

Try a USB memory stick in your USB port. If it works fine, then the socket is not the problem. Before replacing the cable try it in another computer or a USB generic AC power unit for cameras.
