  • MacBook Pro 17" Unibody Teardown Feb 18 @ 10:27 AM

    Quote from UltraNEO:

Hiya, Is it physically impossible to dismantle the display section? As yet, I've not seen any images posted by anyone, not even yourselves.

The glass front panel is glued firmly to the rear panel. We haven't tried to liberate it. It is possible that heat might loosen the adhesive, but it's just as possible that the heat will smoke or break the glass. As far as I know, there isn't a feasible way to get in there.

  • iPod 5th Generation (Video) Troubleshooting Feb 16 @ 3:31 PM

    A little trick I've found:

If your iPod Video boots for a second and then goes to either a restore icon, sad iPod icon, or folder icon; pay attention to how long it takes to display the icon. If it instantly goes to the icon, a logic board is more likely the problem. If it hangs on the Apple icon for a few seconds, a hard drive cable or hard drive is more likely to be the problem.

The headphone jack on the 2nd gen original iPod is attached to the logic board, unfortunately. Apple did not begin offering replaceable headphone jacks until the 3rd generation.

Clearly, you're not as much of an idiot as you initially thought, if you fixed it!

    Congrats.

It depends on whether you have a 12" or 14" iBook G4 1.2 GHz. We sell both parts. Here are the links for both:

iBook G4 14" front display bezel

    hello manlan,

All signs point to the display data cable being partially or completely disconnected. Double-check that connector, represented by step 41 on the display guide.

  • Re: MacBook Pro Keyboard & Trackpad Dead Jun 3 @ 11:08 AM

    Interesting....

I would start with the upper case assembly, as it will replace the board responsible for transmitting the keyboard and trackpad info to the logic board.

  • Re: black macbook with nvidia power Jun 3 @ 10:54 AM

    Hi Maurice,

There are structural differences, unfortunately. The screw holes through the heat sink and logic board are in a different orientation with the nvidia white MacBooks. Therefore, the lower case of earlier models won't work with the guts from the new one.

Depending on how handy/daring you are, you may be able to modify the black lower case to accommodate the new orientation. Be aware, however, that the screw posts are crucial for grounding in MacBooks. A faulty ground through the screw posts results in the death of the keyboard, trackpad, and USB (painful learning experience for me)!

    Good luck!

That, my friend, is the Mac version of the PC's "blue screen of death." You know, the one that Mac zealots say never happens on a Mac?

If it happens once in a very long while, I wouldn't worry about it. However, you should definitely back up your data to be safe. If it becomes a more frequent occurrence, start troubleshooting the vital hardware (such as RAM, hard drive, or logic board).

    Good luck!

Double-check to make sure the long black screw in the RAM bay is out, as indicated by Step 3 of the takeapart guide. I've found that this screw is strangely elusive and yet very hindering when taking apart this machine!

  • Re: How to replace a keyboard on 2008 model of MacBook White May 13 @ 8:14 AM

    Selice,

The keyboard is not removable from the upper case. It comes as one unit.

Having that said, the process is exactly the same as the earlier models for replacing the upper case. Here is a link for the upper case replacement.
