  • 15" MacBook Pro A1226 Left I/O Board or Logic Board? Nov 2 @ 10:15 PM

I have a 15" MacBook Pro (2.2GHz Core2Duo) that one day refused to come out of sleep and hasn't worked since.

It's not the battery, power adapter or RAM (have traded with a 2.4GHz Core2Duo to no effect).

It boots (off battery or with no battery and power adapter), makes the CD-drive access sound and seems to be running. There is nothing on the screen (no image at all, even with a flashlight shining). The caps lock light does not come on when I press it. The light on the front of the MBP stays solid, but does dim when I cover both speakers with my hands.

I have connected an external USB keyboard (non-apple) and it does not respond (caps lock/num lock). Booting the MBP in target mode (holding down T) and connecting it via firewire to a MacBook does nothing.

When I plug in a USB thumb drive to the left or right USB port on the MBP, the activity light flashes for a second and then stays dark.

Anyone encountered this before? I'm hesitant to buy the left I/O board if it's not the issue. I definitely cannot afford a logic board, which is out of stock anyway.

I'd be grateful for any ideas.
