  • Powerbook G4 - not booting & kernal panic Nov 1 @ 3:00 PM

    Hi.

I have a MAC Powerbook G4. I did a software update and now I cannot reboot. I get the grey screen with the apple logo but no spinning wheel, no motor sound.

I called Apple Tech & after going through several steps they said I need to bring it in for repair - $1000 (not worth it). Another point worth mentioning, they had me insert the installation disk (while computer OFF), then hold down the C key and press the power button ON. I got a kernal panic message. I guess my operating system and hard drive are not communicating with one another.

Do I need to install a new hard drive? Or, is there something else I can try? Can I re-install using the disk that came with the laptop by wiring it to my desktop? If so, how? I don't have the money for a new computer or the repair cost. Thanks!!!
