  • Installing MacBook Core Duo Lower Case Oct 21 @ 9:34 PM

These are excellent instructions. To replace just the keyboard/top case will take about 15 minutes.

To replace the bottom case will take about two hours.

In addition to the coin, phillips head screwdriver and spudger, I recommend working on a large towel, and having some scotch tape.

Working on the towel will save you time and aggravation if a screw gets away from you - it won't go very far.

Print out the instructions from the PDF document. As you remove the screws, us a piece of tape to grab the screws, fold over part of the tape to keep them secure, and then tape the screws to the step in the disassembly process.

When you get to the point of reassembly, your parts will be right there at the step as you need them.

Thanks to the people at iFixIt for their excellent guides, and their excellent support and response time to questions/posts! Awesome job!

I recently replaced the keyboard/top of lower case with ifixit instructions. Piece of cake thanks to the great instructions here!

The bottom case needed to be replaced also, so followed instructions to a T. They were great! It took a lot longer than replacing the keyboard cover.

I put in the battery and breathed a sigh of relief when I heard the chime.

But was not a happy camper when I realized that the computer was running, but no backlight, so the only way I can see the screen at all is to have a bright light on it. Unacceptable.

I can connect to the computer with another using Screen Sharing on my WiFi network. The computer is working fine except for screen light. I connected to an external video source (my TV) and it works fine also. iSight camera works fine with iChat.

The brightness keys are set to brightest, and the display preference has brightness all the way up.

I have tried to reset the PMU a variety of different ways. No change.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance, Penny.

    Hi Lemerise,

I opened up the computer and the inverter cable connector was not only not well seated, it was just laying there on top of the mother board.

I plugged it in and reassembled the computer, and voila! There was light!

Thank you so much for your excellent manuals and online support.

    You are the greatest!

    I send you joy,

The computer had been dropped. There was a chink out of the lower right corner that was bugging me.

I didn't know until I replaced the top case that, on the bottom case, some of the screws in the front right were stripped and it was bowing out.

The inverter cable connection is in step 31, correct?

Thank you! I will do this when I get home tonight, and let you know the outcome.
