Product Details Edit

We know that doing the best repair requires the best tools. That's why we've spent the last few years looking for the best opening tool we could provide to our users. We've tried razor blades, spatulas, spikes, pins, picks, and many custom designed opening tools. iSesamo is the best opening tools we tried. Made in Italy, we have been providing these from Dotterpod since they were all handmade. Now popularized by iFixit, this tool is sought after by repair shops around the globe. In the hands of a repair professional, this opening tool will make short work of popping open even the most difficult iPod cases.

Crafted for one purpose. ¶

A thin sheet of springy steel, designed to slide easily between panels and into microscopic cracks. An expertly curved tip, perfected to get the right angle on electronic casing clips. And with a no-slip grip, this tool is much more effective and reliable than other case opening methods.

Double edged sword. ¶

Made from metal means it’s longer lasting than plastic opening tools, which rarely last for more than one repair. It can release the rusty or bound clips where plastic tools may have failed in the past. However, being made of metal also means the tool can and will scratch or mar softer materials like case plastic. It requires a steady hand to use properly, but does work best.

Stories

My Problem

Cracked screen

My Fix

The right tools helped immensely. Repair went without a hitch.

My Advice

Be patient and keep track of small parts usng a magnetic mat!

My Problem

Battery was not holding charge for any length of time. My 4th generation iPod, was in great working condition, but it was not holding a charge for more then a half an hour.

My Fix

Replacing the battery was very easy, the video and information on this site was right on. I was able to replace the battery with 15 minutes.

My Advice

Trying to route the wires underneath the safety circuit was very difficult.....make sure that you take you time so as not to damage any components on the PCA. I would recommend purchasing a spudger tool to help in routing the wires.

My Problem

My 2006 Mac mini was still running tiger os 10.4.11. Unable to use many newer applications, update web browser, sign up for nest account for my newly installed nest, etc because computer was too slow. Also it would stall out constantly, freeze up and quit unexpectedly. Needed more memory and new OS. Local repair guy recommended I just buy a new computer.

My Fix

Overall went very well. Taking the cover off was still difficult even with the isesamo. Actually ended up bending the isesamo badly in order to pop the case off. But once it was off there was no problem detaching and unscrewing things. RAM came out and installed easily enough. Putting things back together was a little trickier. Reinserting the thermal sensor cable was a little difficult but I finally got it. Three of the four screws that came out went back in easily but I was unable to get the 4th in and get it to "grab" anything. After several attempts I finally gave up. It seems to be fine with the 3 screws. I'm hanging onto the 4th to try again later. Afterwards I installed snow leopard and that also went well. Computer seems to be running much smoother now. No problems have been detected so far.

My Advice

I had been too scared to attempt opening my mac and trying to repair myself fearing I would break it or make it worse. Now I'm glad I saved my money and upgraded myself because it wasn't as difficult as I thought.

My Problem

I bought a used Mini and wanted to upgrade the memory and hard drive

My Fix

The Anti Static mat kept the components safe and gave me a clean smooth are to work on. The Magnetic project mat held all the screws. I really like the printed lines on the mat, I put the tiny screws in a square and wrote down what step they came from and no problem, nothing lost or leftover.

My Advice

Get the iSesamo tool to open the Mini. I used a ground down scraper before and it left some marks on the case. The iSesamo opened the case easier and left no marks.

My Problem

A student broke their iPad and I was contracted to do the repair. This is a common occurrence with young students it seems.

My Fix

It went really well. The iOpener worked better than I thought it would've and I used one of the suction cups to pry it open once I loosened the adhesive. With the small suction cups they seem to give away a lot, the heavy duty ones don't.

My Advice

I used the iSesamo opening tool extensively and I ended up squashing a lot of the bezel down. Next time, I'll use the iSesamo tool to get a starting point, but try to use the guitar picks a little more.

My Problem

Macbook pro mid 2009 battery needed replacement

My Fix

As smooth as silk

and on and on and on......

My Fix

This complete toolset and the Apple repairset are the tools i was searching for. For many years i used screwdrivers and self made plungers, mostly inaffective.

Now with my new toolset it is easy and works nice and fast.

My Advice

YES, only one advice for al the costumers on youre site.

Spend good time searching for the right tools, you find them all on the site of ifixit.com. Search - klik - order. Before you know the packaged will be delivered worldwide.

The best service i ever met is on this website!

My Problem

Take apart my 6th gen ipod classic to replace a dead battery. Then had some fun taking apart my Samsung Galaxy SII! And put it back together just fin and working like normal

My Fix

Apple products the usual case; they are still a P.I.T.A to take apart but the iSesamo tools were a lot easier to handle then those plastic chinese made junk pry sticks and less scary to use a putty knife haha. Essential the iSesamo is a technicians multi-tool prier to take anything apart! Best $10 i have bought in my tool bag so far!

My Advice

Must have in ANY technicians tool bag when you need to take apart anything small electronic device!

My Problem

Upgraded ram from 1 GB to 2 GB.

My Fix

Taking out the case was the biggest challenge. I initially tried couple of tools, but they almost damaged the edges of the case. The machine is very old and case was not easy to pull. I saw a video demo of iSesamo tool on youtube and ordered from ifixit. The order was delivered on time in India and initially I had a doubt if the tool will really work because it looked too soft. But I was really surprised the way it worked. Initially I had some difficulty as the case was too tight but I am quite sure if I had used some other tool, then my case would have been damaged. With the help of other tools and video/guides, other tasks were made easy. Apple authorized shop asked me around $150 for this upgrade, but I managed to do it myself @ $30. My order at ifixit cost me around $90 but I can use them for future repairs. So over all I am in profit. Thanks ifixit.

My Advice

If you are trying to open old mac mini (not unibody), then better order two isesamo tool as it can help pulling the case. You can pull one side and block it with one tool, and they try pulling other to open the case.

My Problem

Fot its 5th anniversary my model 1176 mini-mac deserved an upgrade. As the RAM could not be extended any more, I chose the 120GB SSD.

Delivery was very fast, ordered in the weekend it arrived from California in the Northern Netherlands the next Wednesday morning.

My Fix

The USB-adapter kit made cloning the drive very easy. As my Mac was reluctant to work with its belly open I needed a laptop to follow the guide, with this it was easier and went faster than I had expected. All went well, I only damaged one of the white notches keeping the enclosure in place, but this gave no problems (enough left).

My Advice

Do not insert the opening tool too far (this broke the notch), follow the guide in this.

The Mac is a lot faster now, I hope/expect I can postpone its retirement for another 5 years.
