My Problem

The dregs of a soft serve cushioned the fall of my iPhone four into a cup. The power lock button got jammed up with goo.

My Fix

The guides were great. The tiny long screw at the top flew across the room as I took it out but luckily I found it about six feet away. Works as good as new now!

My Advice

Keep the screws in their respective locations so they go back into the correct holes.

My Problem

I dropped my iPhone and the back was in pieces... I decided to order the transparent back iPhone 4S back cover at 10:00 am that morning... Received it the next day at 11:00 am... Wow !

My Problem

My niece has been wanting a iPhone 4 for forever!! Well, I handed down an iPhone that i bought May of last year to my nephew after the iPhone 4S came out last October. My nephew dropped the iPhone 3 weeks ago, so he stopped using the phone and bought a used one off of Ebay. My niece asked her mom if she could use the iPhone 4 even though the screen was smashed. Her mom said yes. I couldn't stand to see a broken iPhone so I bought the tools for www.ifixit.com and the rest is history!! Perfectly working iPhone!!!

My Fix

The repair took 1.5 hours and there were absolutely no problems. I took breaks and deep breaths frequently.

My Advice

The only thing I wish I had known before starting the repair would be how difficult it was to remove the battery or anything else that was glued down.

My Problem

I dropped my iPhone 4S the day after I purchased it - shattered the camera lens. I purchased the clear back panel and liberation kit.

My Fix

The screws on the iPhone were on pretty tight so the pentalobe screwdriver that came with the liberation kit was immediately stripped - it's pretty cheap.

After I received the premium driver, all went well. The driver fit perfectly and no stripping of the driver or screws.

My Advice

Definitely go with the higher end driver - save yourself the time and frustration. Well worth the money.

My Problem

My battery on my 4s would usually be down to 10% by noon. The battery is 1 year old. If not for my Mophie I'd been in real trouble. I tried turning off notifications, location srvcs, wifi, etc. I live in what they call a fringe area as a Verizon customer. I installed a Verizon network extender and that helped my signal at home. I did notice that once I was in a strong signal area the battery lasted longer. Two days after installation I've noticed a 30% improvement in battery time. I suspect apps, weak signal, are all playing a part in addition to I use the cr%# out of my phone.

My Fix

Repair went beautifully, I watched the iPhone 4 video, in addition to following the iPhone 4s written instructions. My battery had extra adhesive on it and using the plastic prying tool, I kept light pressure on lifting the battery out for nearly a full minute before it began to slowly lift out. The antennae popped out unexpectedly but it didn't go far. Putting in new battery went without any problems.

My Advice

I'm not sure where I got the advice, but I used a large size shoebox lid from a pair of my wife's shoes to do the repair inside of. Good thing too, as the antennae popped out unexpectedly, and one screw popped out of the tweezers but with the shoe lid all was contained. And be very patient on lifting the battery out, don't even bother with the plastic tab. Oh, and a video of the battery replacement on a 4s would be nice. There is an extra screw on the 4s and the antennae is a little different.

My Problem

I dropped my iphone and the earpiece stopped working. After 2 weeks of using the phone via speaker phone mode I got tired of the situation. Visited the apple website and balked at the $150 charge to mail my phone in to them. Googled fixing iPhone and ifixit.com came up. I easily found instructions and after reviewing them with the pictures decided to fix it myself. I ordered all the recommended parts and they came in 2 days.

My Fix

It took me an hour to slowly take apart my phone, tape down the small parts to a board and label each part by step. It took 45 minutes to put everything back together. Could not believe how small the pieces were. So glad I taped things down.

My Advice

Take the phone apart on something light colored so you can see any pieces you drop.

Tape all the pieces down and label.

I took a break every time I could not get a screw in the hole to avoid frustration.

My Problem

iPhone 4 battery was dying within a day, and I was too cheap to have someone else fix it.

My Fix

The repair went pretty well. A couple of comments:

1. The plastic tools (see pic) were useless. They broke off immediately; both of them.

2. The two screwdrivers were absolutely necessary! My iPhone 4 had the 5-point Pentalobe screws.

3. When I removed the old battery the connector part broke off of the battery (see second pic). This was ok since I wasn't going to use it anyway.

4. I had trouble connecting the new battery to the iPhone. When I looked at the connector on the phone it seemed I had to slide the new part in from the side, but that didn't work.

My Advice

Advice:

1. Don't buy the plastic opening tools, they're too fragile.

2. Buy the screwdrivers; they're worth it.

3. When you attach the new battery connector to the iPhone, just push it into place (it'll "click"). You don't have to slide it in from the side. The video could spend a little more time on this step to show/explain it better.

4. The instructions advise replacing the tiny screws with new ones. What are the sizes of the screws (thread, diameter, length), and where can one get them?

My Problem

My iPhone 4G battery died. Wanted to get a cost to replace and found a link to iFixit.com with instructions. Looked easy and cheap so I gave it a try.

My Fix

Went exactly like the video. Was so easy, i let my 14 year old daughter and 16 year old son do it. Took them 10 minutes. They will probably start changing batteries for their friends.

My Advice

Watch the video a couple of times in advance. We played it on my ipad as we were fixing, and paused after each completed task. Screws are very small, so work on a clean, solid uncluttered surface. Make sure that the windex has completely evaporated from cleaning the metal parts before closing iphone. Glad i bought the suggested screwdriver kit. Needed both of them and they were magnitized to help remove and replace screws.

My Problem

iphone would not work unless it was hooked to charger, after being dropped in water for 10 minutes. Put it in a bag with rice and removed rear panel.Replace battery works great .

My Fix

Replaced battery.

My Advice

Thanks alot ifixit for saving me $$$$.
