My Problem

fixing iphones and ipads for a small business

My Fix

very well, the trays were a massive help, i would recommend them to anyone doing small repairs

My Advice

make sure everything is labelled and take your time. follow Ifixit's manuals if your new to these repairs

My Problem

I simply ran out of space on the original 160 GB drive.

My Fix

The repair went very well once I selected and cloned the new hard drive. The Seagate Hybrid drives sounded great, but after researching the Internet and finding a large number of negative reviews, I jumped to a Western Digital 750 GB, 7200 RPM Drive (Scorpio Black). I have TechTool Pro 6 which has a cloning tool in it. I tried it and was sorry. The first time, I had the nerve to leave it after it was about 50% done only to come back and find that my computer had been rebooted with out completing the clone. I tried again and after two and a half hours the cloning was done. Upon checking the computer with the new external cloned drive all the files that were suposed to be invisable were now visable. I erased the new drive, downloaded SuperDuper! and cloned the new drive without any problems at all. I assighned a space in the sorting tray for each step in the repair guide. As a result the reassembly was problem free. The computer works perfectly and the drive is wisper quite, with no detectable vibration.

I used the following guides:

"MacBook Pro 15" Core 2 Duo Models A1226 and A1260 Hard Drive Replacement".

"Importent Instructions for setting up your new hard drive". I really had a hard time finding this one!!

My Advice

Stick with SuperDuper! Its free and it works perfetly. I was so impressed that if paid for the full version.

My Advice

Take it easy. Always. Don't think the repair would it be done by itself.

My Problem

Liquid damaged my keyboard and a few keys stop working. I wanted to replace a new keyboard and add a new backlit to the MacBook Unibody Model A1278 late 2008.

My Fix

My Problem

I am training a client's 14-year old son to be able to take apart equipment he can deem to be qualified to do. To this end, he is being provisioned with the tools needed for computer and other small electronics projects.

My Fix

This young man replaced the hard drive on my 2009 MacBook Pro with a new SSD very handily. He noted that it is easy to learn how to do something with the "right tool for the job" equation.

My Advice

Some Tips From The Pros would be nice for beginners.... along with the videos, there might be a section for some-one just entering the field.

My Problem

the remote needed to set the codeswithes . the back cover on iphone 4 was smashed

My Fix

It went well i used the plastic opening tool on the remote and the pro tech base toolkit , and the replacement cover for iphone was also a quick fix with pentalobe screwdriver

My Advice

i used the 000 philips screw driwer ,the 00 driver was little to big in my opinion ,just remember to take away all the plastic film covering the antenna and camera lens and of caurse outside of back cover

My Problem

Um... It dropped and landed face down on the concrete sidewalk when I pulled my hand out of my jacket pocket. No, I did not have a cover of bumper on the phone at the time. I do now.

My Fix

I followed the repair guide to the letter including using the parts tray. The tray was invaluable to keep the screws organized for reassembly. Since the display was cracked getting the old glass off the front tape that secured the original display to the frame took some time and patience. The reassembly went well - I thought. I cleaned the parts as suggested to keep grounding points solid. I got it back together and the screen flickered and acted very erratic. I used it for a day and after not being able to enter text on the screen consistently I figured something was wrong with either my reassembly or the new glass assembly was defective. My hunch was my reassembly. Took the phone apart once again and looked at the old part verses the new part. The old part had insulation on the Digitizer cable and LCD cable connectors. The new part did not. I did a fair amount of component level trouble shooting 20 years ago and thought this may be the culprit because the wi-fi antenna goes across the top of these two and three other connectors. I thought it might be the source of the short. I was correct. After I re-insulated the top of these two connectors and carefully observed the reassembly of the wi-fi antenna I discovered that the antenna bar made contact with with bare LCD cable connector on the main board. Reassembled. Works good as new!

My Advice

My advice. Re-insulate the Digitizer cable and LCD cable connectors. I used two small pieces of black electrical tape as an insulator. It would have been helpful if there was a note on the new display stating that the connectors need to be insulated or an addendum to the step-by-step instructions. Thanks for the great site. It was invaluable once again.
