We know that different jobs call for different prying tools. Often times, a stiff plastic card is just the thing for slipping into the tight nooks and crannies of a device, such as an iMac. Do not use a credit card, as the raised numbers and letters can damage the device.

My Problem
The display on my wife's old MacBook would darken to a black screen at the worst possible moment. The iFixit site helped me figure out it was the Display Inverter. I ordered the parts but didn't get to the task until three months later.
My Fix
At first I felt a bit intimidated by the nearly 50 steps for tear-down, but I dove in with confidence. An ice cube tray held the little screws I removed and kept them in order. After two hours, the MacBook was running once again. Now that I've used it for the past month, the symptoms are gone. But, two minor problems remain. (1) the back side of the hinge now has bulging corners (see images) - a reassembly error, and (2) when the angle of the display gets to about 80°, it goes to sleep - the internal switch that triggers display sleep is probably just a bit out of position. The repair was a success.
My Advice
I would have appreciated a "heads-up" with the addition of a comment in the directions when the hinge is removed regarding its reassembly. How do you avoid bulging corners?
My Problem
My 2006 macbook's screen was entering seizure mode. The screen would flicker on and off. The internet said it was most likely the inverter and/or the inverter cable.
My Fix
It was the first time I opened my mac to that degree. It lasted 2-3 hours to take it apart and put it back together. The guides were super helpful and it went super smoothly (besides a couple of shredded screws and what not). I replaced the inverter successfully but the problem persists. I believe it's the inverter cable as it looked pretty messed up.
My Advice
Replace the inverter and the inverter cable at the same time, you don't want to have to open it again if you replace the wrong thing!
My Problem
needed more memory
My Fix
Great! followed the instructions, also used some advice from the comments section.
My Advice
The advice in the comments section was very helpful. Like mentioned there I left the 4 fan wires in place and used the same glue on the temp sensor to install on the new HD
My Problem
dropped computer and sheared the hinge rod on the the left hinge clutch assembly
My Fix
99% successful. unfortunately, i did not understand how the inverter plugs was meant to come off the main board and ended up breaking the pins off of the main board, so now the computer is toast. oh well. it ALMOST worked for me.
My Advice
not sure. i think the page in the guide that explains how to disconnect the inverter plug from the main board needs more clarity. besides that, the guide is very good, and the process is not as hard as the "difficult" rating the process gets. oh, one bit of advice: get a sleeve of small 2-3oz paper dixie cups to keep the screws from each step in. and use a marking pen to mark the cup with the number of the step that removed the screws.
at this point, i'm trying to donate the computer back to ifixit. it's full of parts that they sell. (including the new part i bought from ifixit), but i cannot seem to figure out how. they have a "sell" page, and they don't want to buy my old machine, but there doesn't seem to be an option to donate it. there needs to be.
My Problem
I couldn't use my MacBook anymore because my monitor went black when i opened my screen for more than 10%. At first wiggling the screen would sometimes help, but one bad day even that didn't help anymore. Taking my Mac to a repairshop would be way to expensive for this older laptop. So i searched the net and found the cause of the defect (and the solution!) on this website. Praise and hallelujah!
My Fix
The stuff i ordered reached my front door (in the Netherlands) in a week. The actual repairing took me 4 hours. Things went smoothly thanks to the big photos. I used sheets of paper to tape the little screws on and scribbled the according step next to them. That's really helpful when you reassemble the Macbook.
My Advice
Use a serialnumber search on the net to see wich Macbook-version you have, so you can tell wich inverter cable you will find when you reach step 47 in the guide.
My Problem
We want to know how we can fix the Display back on the iMac 11/2012.
My Fix
We opend the iMAC changed the HDD to SSD an now we have the problem that we don't know how to fix it the display back on the iMAC.
My Advice

My Problem
screen showed rainbow pattern
My Fix
Very smooth. No problems
My Advice
Take your time, patience is needed.
My Problem
Student had smashed the LCD panels on 4 Macbook's.
My Fix
Fantasticly smooth! I had no problems.
My Advice
The worst part of the process was taking the tape off of the connector. Once it came off you have to try and put the new connector into place which isn't really possible without a pair of tweezers!
My Problem
Stripped cross-point screw in the case back of a watch.
My Fix
Badly. The 1.5mm screw extractor from the Precision Screw Extractor Set broke on the first use, leaving me with a big, painful, bleeding hole in my left hand. I am a professional watchmaker, so I can't say that I'm totally surprised by this; manufacturers of this type of tool don't seem to appreciate the torque and stresses placed on their tools for this purpose. Do they supply replacement bits for the inevitable broken ones?
The rest of the tools were AOK, especially the screw extracting pliers which are a god-send.
My Advice
I don't know if iFixit already does this, but it would be helpful if replacement parts would be available for tools that are likely to break. Generally, though, iFixit tools are great and this single disappointing experience wouldn't stop me from ordering again. After all, iFixit didn't actually manufacture the tool that broke.
